Here's a tip, if you get caught in an arm bar.....TAP OUT!
Don't let this happen to you like it did to this UFC fighter last Saturday night.

At this level of cage-fighting, you don't need to be well rounded.

Use the skills that you have to win. If you've been wrestling for 9 years, try to out wrestle him. Then hold him down and ground and pound him. You aren't going to become a professional boxer in one month but if you can get some boxing training in to hold you until you can get the fight to the ground, it would be a good thing.

Good luck

Given you don't have technique mastered, I wouldn't waste any time and attack viciously, burst it out and don't wait for it to come to you. I equate technique skills with time, lack of = no time to waste. Never caged fight.

I'm a runner... I run xc and track... but I'm tiny... heck, my truck is like a road train compared to the size of me.

But, I think cagefighting is kind of funny.... but I wouldn't do it.

Just be careful I guess.

I actually know where that is. A friend has property up near Adams/Friendship. A couple of summers ago we drove my ranger up some ski hill and hiked up to that star and climbed the thing. Are you paying to fight or what? This might be worth my time.

I am friends with a few people who fight in the cage quite often. One of the biggest things is cardio . See if you can't join a place that specializes in MMA. A guy I work with right now has been wrestling for prolly 12-15 years and trained hard 5 days a week for his first fight and he said it was wroth ever bit. Even though he lost he said without training it would have been way worse. Hopefully the promoter will set you up with a person like yourself who has never fought before, sometimes they keep it fair and sometimes they put a newbie in with someone who has had 5 or more under their belt.

If it's a fight because you pissed someone off, then try and elbow him in the face. That will either break his nose, KO him or both. Don't pull this move right off the bat. You'll have to get yourself into a position where you can actually pull this off.

Also, if the other guy has long hair, then opens up a few moves. You could try a fake out sort of thing. Make it look like your going to grab his leg or go for a low shot of some sort, then when he tries to block low, then get a nice handful of hair. This may sound like a bitch move, but just slam his face down after you get a handful.

NOT GUARANTEED TO WORK!

Or you could just work out your differences over a few beers.

sounds like your pretty set, having a wresling background myself i know that wrestling is pretty much the most basic and yet effective style their is, so hits arent everything (just ask kimbo) and i personally dont see the point in burning all your time on hitting either (some but not too much) you see all kinds of people training on tv and end up hitting nothing like they so in training (too many names to throw out) so all i can chime in with is you say you dont want a sub. win but i say if you have it sitting in front of you then TAKE IT!! thatll still open up new doors for you if you decide to continue with everyone wanting to "put that new guy in his place"..... oh and dont forget to tape it.....

I can't believe no one has mentioned this. But, you have to watch your nose really close. Because the second you take a punch your eyes will water up to where you can't see due the cartilage (unless you have had it removed). So best be prepared.

Cardio will keep you in the much longer. Because the min you start to tank, your opponent will bring the thunder !!
