What engine do you have? That sounds like a V-6 auto or a V-8 manual. If you have the 2K, what is your mileage? I think you are suppose to get crappy mileage if it is still new, especially this season. Maybe that is why my mpg's are no better than what I used to get when the truck was new during the summer.

Cool

That would be a dream, you can't rely on a 2.7gal fill-up at a different station. You should read your owner's manual about calculating gas millage. As I remember it goes something like this to calculate millage you must use the same station, same pump, park the same direction and let the pump click off 3 times.

Remember, the rating on the sticker is the EPA's rating, and it doesnt mean it will be right on the dot. Good-guy, thats good you logged the mpg's because it will help some of us out.

The best I got ever was exactly 22.1 mpg. I consider that good for a v8 and a e4od

This sounds a lot like what happened to my kid sister many years ago. She had a VW bug and my older brother kept adding gas to her tank. She couldn't believe what great mileage she was getting.

Raoul's been keeping both the baker AND the mailman busy. Kidding aside, one more story: A local bar up in one of the resort areas of northern Minnesota (lots of lakes here): One of the regulars got himself a new truck and is doing most of the talking lately. One or another of his pals goes outside and pours a gallon or so of gas in the new truck every few days. Pretty soon the guy is crowing big time about mileage on top of the regular patter about his new baby. This goes on until the guy goes in for his first 3000 mile service at the dealer, at which time the other guys quit taking short trips out to the parking lot. At last report the guy is still hollering bloody murder at the dealer about what they must have done to trash his mileage, nobody has spilled the beans yet, and the whole (small) town is yuckin' it up.

hmustang,
How many miles do you have on your truck???
When I first got mine my milage was horrible (around 10mpg) by the time I got 10,000 on it I was getting 15+ (with a best of 16.2)

dirlton,
I know someone that did this to his neighbor, but he took it one step further he actually started siphoning fuel out of his truck after he got him convinced that he was getting 25mpg. He went from getting 25 down to about 10 (and he also just about went crazy)

When hauling a load worth 1K+, would a V-8 5.4l consume less gas than the V-6? My logic says that in order to pull the same weight, the V-6 would have to work harder so it drinks more while the V-8 not that much. I should've sprung for the V-8, my truck hauls 1K+ loads several times a week. Went lowrider again today. Parked next to a 97 F-150 with the same color and it has a Leer shell. But mine was squatting about 1-2 inches. It looked hilarious. I found out if I get my mind out of saving fuel by driving granny style for a while, the V-6 magically produces 20 more horsepower. Amazing.

Thumbs down

To get an accurate mileage reading, you should measure an entire tankful - at a minimum.

I get about 15mpg driving around town. Once got 23 on a long leg of a hwy trip in my first f150. Currently on second f150 and never really check what kind of mpg it gets. Just like driving it...

Mike S so far I only have 800+ miles on it so far this last tank should have a little better mileage to it since I took a small trip about 120 miles one way mostly highway driving over the holiday weekend I'm going to fill it up this afternoon and figure out the mileage I got.

hmustang,
Do yourself a favor, don't check every tankfull it'll drive ya crazy...Check it again when you have 2000 miles on it you'll be pleasently suprised... After keeping close records for the first 3-4 tankfulls I figured I'd just have to live with 10-11mpg. I didn't check it again untill I had 10000+ miles on it. I almost fell over when I came up with 16.2mpg. Actually I went and tried to put more fuel in it figuring that I didn't get the tank full. The tank was full and I was happy
