Only real problem that I've had is the door crack, but other than that my truck is great.
So get an F150, you'll be glad you did. Good luck to you.

Jason,
I had a 98 F-150, Supercab, 5.4L..I drove it for almost 18,000 miles (14 months) and the ONLY problem I had was the small cracks inside the roof water channels..and this was not that big of a problem to be perfectly honest. No piston slap, no leaking sliding rear window, no door cracks either.

I traded it in for a newer model with more "toys" and more h.p. I have had my 2000 for one month now..no problems of any kind. It has INCREDIBLE get up and go with the 260-265 hp 5.4L. Easy to work on...and built solid.

Don't be scared off at all..the F-150 is by far the best truck on the road in my opinion. I spent many, many hours and posted tons of questions before I bought my 98 F-150. I know I did not go wrong...and I don't think you will either.

Good luck!

I drove all 3 full size trucks before buying my F150.
I didn't drive Toyota because a V8 was WAY too much money plus there is an ongoing debate about how "Full Size" a Toyota is.
They certainly do charge a "Full Size" price for it though.
I drove a Nissan for 7 yers before that so I had no bias to any one brand.
I felt Ford offered the most truck for the buck and Ford has more configurations than any other brand.
Although I've had a tranny leak already, I am very pleased with my truck overall.
Get an F150 you won't regret it.

Well fourdyfour, I just did it to give NowImScaredToBuy the answers he was looking for.
I just get sick and tired of seeing so many duplicate topics.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I think kkirt1 was refering to the fact that this same question has been posted in several different forums.

I had a 98 bought used that had a bent frame, if you buy used check for that stuff first. I used to work in the automotive paint business and knew what to look for with body damage and it still got by me. The alignment guy figured it out. I now have a 99 that is flawless except for a broken piece of plastic around the bottom of the seat by the lumbar **** and a one time incident of lifter noise caused by incorrect oil filter. Oh and an intermittent rattle from behind the power point door (very minor) for which I just crank up Counting Crows new CD "This Desert Life". These are great trucks and at least you know what to look for. CHECK FOR ACCIDENT DAMAGE.

Thanks so much for the input guys! This is truly a great source of information with really nice folks (save one). You are all right about knowing what to look for ahead of time being a major advantage in my favor. I am impressed with how strong the opinions are about these being great trucks.

Now about the "SPAM". I had to actually do a search on the web to find out what this meant because i am new to BBS's and list's and the sort. My only intention was to get a wide variety of people's opinions and chose the most frequented topics to post my leaders (for lack of a better term)to the survey. I spent over 2 hours reading posts from different topic groups before i wrote anything myself. After my research (which i believed to be quite thorough) the amount of negatives seemed to far outweigh the positives, which concerned me. I thought i was being responsible, respectful and polite..but granted,as Mark G said, I am new to all of this and wasnt quite sure how it all went. AndThenSomeToo: It is my opinion that responses like yours are what make new guys like me feel inferior and maybe even give-up on something they never had a chance to learn. The way you talked down to me, in my opinion wasnt needed...atleast not in that tone! I feel that I gave all of you my respect up front without question..and even tho I made an error..It was my first time ever on a board. The rest of you more than made up for that tho so I would like to remain a member. Even if i am the newguy..that gives no reason to talk to me like a child Andthensometoo. I hope I didnt make any enemys with my first shot at this..and I am more than willing to comply to what is "common knowledge" to you all..but i atleast need a Chance to understand.

Again thank you all for the warm welcome and help. I am glad i found this site..but more importantly the people that use it!

Sincerely,
Jason

Hey, I'd offer to sell you my truck (I'm getting a 2000) but another member here has already jumped on it. Good luck on your search though.

I love my truck and haven't had any problems with it. This site is great and the members are the best. What I like is the information that allows me to check my vehicle for similar problems...so far I'm very satisfied.

This site also keeps me abreast of all of the latest ideas for mods and custom alterations.
I really appreciate all of you members and the great discussion.

I'd like to stick up for Andthensometoo. She's alright. I think she was sticking up for the site. A lot of us feel very protective of our site. It's the best on the Web of any automotive user sites that I know.

Welcome among us. But I agree with Tina. I'd change my username to something a little more positive.

You'll get the hang of it all. I'm a techno-dork and I did.

My second of the "new" F150s. Great trucks!

Cool

My main problem is finding modifications to make my truck look and run better, because it already looks and runs great. No problems yet (knock on wood).

Scared,

New bought 1999 @ 9,000 miles and 14 months out .... leaky rear sliding window (fixed), a known problem. That's it!

First truck, first Ford product and one of the most enjoyable vehicles I have even owned.

Bought mine new 12 months ago. 15,000 miles, no problems except for 1 very minor one: The plastic trim on top of the bed was not installed right and the dealer had to replace it. Overall, these trucks are well built and good quality. Most of us are extremely happy with ours.
