Unhappy first time using the warranty....have fun walking?

bought my truck a few months ago. dealer was very proud to tell me it had a warranty and if anything went wrong they would gladly and promptly fix it. of course i would be given a courtesy car while the work was being done.
called him today to make an appt. for my faulty door switches. not major but very annoying. the appt is this fri. ( prompt ) but the bad news was that if you don't have a late '98 or '99 truck they don't give loaners.
now i either have to ride a motorcycle in nov. in wis. (risky) or rent a car or take a day off from work.
i have friends who bought used chevies and they still get loaners. is this a normal ford policy?

Well my dealer said as long as I purchased the truck from them I would get a loaner aslong as my truck was under warranty.
I honestly belive this issue is dealer related.
I don't think Ford gives out loaners as part of warranty.
When I called some dealers that were closer to me they told me no loaner unless I purchased the truck from them.

It's a dealer issue. Ford has nothing to do with how individual dealers treat their customers. "My" dealer has a courtesy shuttle that supposedly takes you wherever you want and picks you up whenever you say, etc. while your vehicle is in the shop (warranty or not). We'll see. Courtesy cars would be a really good deal and a person may want to include them as a consideration in future purchase negotiations. A Nissan/BMW dealer in the neighborhood (a very snotty one) offers courtesy "by hand" car washes "anytime" for their customers. They also have free shoe shines on Tuesdays. And no, I'm not making this up.

My dealer was pretty chincy with their loaners for one day warranty work. I always talked them out of one but it was a pain. They said any time the truck had to spend the night that a loaner would be no problem but one day jobs I was out of luck (well at least until I complained loud enough.) It is a shame that you have to be an a$$ to get what is right.

One time they said I would have to wait until the start of the new quarter because their allocation from Ford had run out and their manager was playing hard ball with dealer paid loaners. It was only two weeks and the fix was nothing major so I waited.

kinda thought it was probably just the dealer. called a coouple of others around here. they said no loaner because i hadn't bought the truck new from them. oh well hope this truck doesn't break much. other then the loaner thing the dealer has been great so guess i'll live with it. i'm just very disappointed.

Cool

Well my dealer (don't buy anything from a dealer in Waterford that rhymes with "tannery") dosen't do loaners for anything, even if you buy from them, and it's under warrenty, and if the repair will take a week! The TV in their waiting room sucks too! I'd rather go to the dentist for a root canal!

Loaner cars... story of my life... back in the day, before the F150, I had the 97 Taurus. No less than a week after I got it, I broke the tranny on it. I took it to my dealer, they arranged for me to get a rental car (dealership owns the rental car company). No problems right? wrong! because I was only 22, the rental comany's general insurance wouldn't cover me. They tried to hit me up for $17 a day plus tax. I told them where to go... because my car was still drivable, I went to work the next day, took it around the corner to the Ford dealer and they gave me a courtesy car which cost me nothing but gas. The next time I took the Taurus in for service (popped the frost plug, fried the head gaskets & valve seats) it took them no less than 17 days to fix it. Unfortunately I was out of warranty (by 7000 km - ~4000 miles) and had to pay for 13 days of rental mobile, plus 1/4 of the cost of the repair. In all that one cost me $1100. So when people talk about extended warranty, yer darn right I bought the best warranty with my truck.

In the end... Eastgate Ford NO! Erinwood Ford YES!

Briarwood ford in ann arbor doesn't give out loaners, but the guy who sold me the rhino, bugguards and remote door system lent me his car, it was a taurus 99, nice car. The guy actually works at the dealership and he gave me his car for the day (a dealer car) otherwise I was out of luck. I asked BEFORE I signed the bottom line for the loaner, but now, when I went in for my mirror vibrating, I was SOL and they won't drive me 50 miles to work and pick me up at the end of the day! Good thing I have friends who live and work at the same places I do!

I am bitter about this because I simply forgot to ask, with the vette they gave me a loaner and I didn't buy it from them (chovie dealer).

Thumbs down

I have posted my troubles in other topics so I won't go over it again. In my area both dealers TOLD me if I would have bought the truck from them and if it was in for a warrenty repair overnight I would get a loaner. since the dealer I purchased the truck from has a crappy service reputation, I have taken it to the other dealer since new. When my truck was down for 7 days it only took minor complaining to get the majority of the loaner paid. I paid the first two days, they took the rest. Only since I was a loyal customer to them and it was a manufacturing defect in the truck. I guess stick to a good dealer for service and they should try to take care of you to keep you coming back to them. My experience anyway, to bad their sales dept. sucks.

just so i don't leave this topic hanging. got my truck fixed last fri. they said they couldn't test the switches when i was bringing it in because they both worked at that time. i told them i knew it was the drivers door that was faulty. he said they would see what they could do.
he called 2 1/2 hrs later to say they were done. he said they couldn't test them so they changed both switches just in case.
i told him i was worried at first that the service dept. was going to be the weak link in their dealership.
so all in all i got a day of vacation that i needed anyways. got my truck fixed promptly as promised, and i still feel very good about the dealer where i purchased it. i guess i can deal with the loaner thing as long as the work is done properly.

Cool

Ford Red Carpet lease gives you a rental if your truck will be in overnight. Extended warranty gives you a rental if your truck will be in overnight, and the repair would be covered under extended warranty (even if it's not in extended warranty period yet). Otherwise it's up to the dealership.

Hey all,

This is something that may work.

Any time you take your vehicle in, tell them you're thinking of trading it in. Tell them you're interested in a new vehicle and would like to test drive it for the day or weekend. Lincoln has done this for me twice and the Ford dealer might also...

Try it, can't hurt,
Mark

Talking

I have not had a breakdown of any sort yett.
But, I do play golf with the owner of the local dealership here. He gives me all parts at his cost, made me great deals on two trucks that I have bought from him. And lets me drive any car on the lot, So it must be a dealer issue. LOL
