Help computer trouble!

Hi. On another PC in my house but I need help with my computer. When i start up, some programs load, then BOOM a bunch of pink flashing, then i get the frozen cracked lines image, and it shuts down after a few secs. It wont stop doing this. So i go into safe mode, go into winpatrol and get rid of all the unnecessary programs in startup. Restart : still does it.

The only thing I would have modified before this was i went into the nvidia panel and overclocked my 9600GT only 100mhz core clock to maybe run GTAIV a little better. Nothing that big. I ran IV and it froze when trying to load the mission, then I manually shut it off, then starting it up all the troubles began.

anyone have any ideas how to fix it? It has to be in safe mode since it keeps freezing on normal startup...

Now how do i do that in safe mode? I tried finding the driver tool in safe mode, but in safe mode it doesn't view through the vid card, it views through VGA or something i dunno, the monitor's stock view system in the lowest 640 resolution.

Nvidia should be in Add/Remove Programs, and you can uninstall any piece of hardware in Device Manager. If you use the device manager option, the drivers will be automatically reinstalled with the same settings when you reboot. I would also rename the C:\Nvidia folder to be safe.

The more I think about it, I'm not sure it'd be vid drivers...

You say it acts like it's booting normal and then, all of the sudden, the poo and fan collide in a pink collage, eh?

Thanks guys, I owe you many. Just removing the drivers & reinstalling them did it.

Thanks!

Well this is fan-diddly-tastic. It is doing the same thing again, except now it is doing it every time I restart. The even more exciting part this time? It won't go into safe mode!

I hate my pc!

Sounds like the vid card is having issues, maybe when you overclocked it you fried something. If you try taking that vid card out and put in a diff. one and see how it boot then.

I don't understand it. I barely overclocked (only 100mhz core clock) and I reinstalled the drivers and it was fine. But I am considering a new Video card.. a 9600GT can only do so much.

100Mhz is too much for that card.

my 8800gt for instance is 625/900 stock and I run it around 685/990 everyday.

you can only OC so much with the stock heatsink.

also your fan might not be automaticaly speeding up when the core heat rises. I always set my fans to 100% with rivatuner before I start gaming

"Some industry voices have called overclocking a hobby, while others have compared it to product misuse. However, I believe that if you are reading this article, you are probably one of the many computer enthusiasts who believe it is perfectly acceptable to get something more out of a product without it costing you more money. When I think about it, everyone enjoys getting something for nothing; it's human nature."

Additionally, it is also human nature to blame someone else if something goes wrong. This is where I present a warning to you, the reader of this article, that this article is not a recommendation to overclock your video card.
