You stole my idea for a new thread, so I will just steal your thread. Now for my idea...

If you were the CEO of GM/Ford/Chrysler what would you pick to drive to DC? This would be your best chance to put your best foot forward and get loads of free press, so lets make a show of it. Pick three cars from each that could be at the dealer within two years. This is your chance to show the world why you need to stick around.

Ford:
1) Lincoln MKS w/ 3.5L Eccoboost.
2) Ford Fusion Hybrid
3) Ford Festiva Diesel (Euro spec)

GM:
1) Chevy Volt
2) Chevy Malibu w/ a whiz-bang drive train (GM has to have something good in the works)
3) Their best small but impressive car from Europe

Chrysler:
1) Ask who's driving the Focus
2) Try to ride shotgun in the MKS
3) Hide in the trunk of the Volt

I left the flashy stuff in the garage and focused on good cars aimed at the middle class and all get 30+ on the highway. What better way to show that Detroit can make more than gas guzzling trucks.

I think Congress has no right to point fingers and bitch about wasteful spending in corporate America. Pot, kettle, black?

Bitching about the CEOs taking private jets to a business meeting...I thought that's what the jets are there for? It's foolish to expect someone with the responsibility and time constraints that come with running a huge international corporation to not take the private jet.

The CEO of GM has arranged for Chevy Volts to be stationed along the way to and from DC. They intend to use zero gasoline. Maybe Mually should consider going in a Hybrid Fusion. I personally think that the DC morons need to mind their own screwed up house first. Did we really elect these clowns?

Just what I was thiniking. I would go one further and when the congress suggested selling the jets, I would of layed into the A-holes and ask about the deficit they run, and if they are willing to forgo pay and benifits until there is a balance budget.

Where did you hear this? From what I have heard on GM commercials an the internet, the car can go ~40 miles on batteries alone. After then it uses a gas generator to charge the batteries back up. The charge time is 6.5 hours on 110VAC and 3.5 hours on 220VAC. A quick google check show there to be 525 miles between Detroit and DC. It would take a minimum of 14 cars along the route at 40 miles per charge. This does not take into account the miles traveled dropping off cars with low batteries in exchange for fresh cars. Factoring in things like this and miles traveled around DC 15-16 cars would be required, if the cars could be recharged for the return trip.

This would be a great PR stunt but from what I have heard there is not a single functional prototype out yet. The ones for commercials and photos is just a empty body with a golf cart motor. The actual powertrain is being developed inside Malibu bodies. All of this can be found at gm-volt.com.

Yeah I am sick of the governmant handing out cash no questions asked to banks who use it to fund buying other banks and not reinvesting/loaning out to customers to help stimulate the economy. But they question giving money to one of the largest EMPLOYERS of blue collar workers (the Big 3 combined) in North America potentially costing TONS of jobs and retirement plans and making it into a corporate greed witch hunt...please. The greed in this country lives in Washington DC...always has and always will. I say to hell with AIG, save the big three before we all end up having to drive Toyotas.

Save the Big 3 so they can continue squandering money? Not giving the Big 3 a handout could actually benefit them more than throwing money at their problems. They could file bankruptcy and continue with business as usual after they restructure their contracts. Noone is saying they will go out of business if they are not bailed out. If they get money this time, how long will it before they come crawling back with their hands out again?

Even if GM had enough Volts to station around and make the trip to DC, it would end up costing more than flying in on the private jet. In order to get the Volt where it will be "waiting", a gas powered truck would have to take it there. By shuttling around all those electric cars on a gas/diesel powered truck you have effectively made the company look even more moronic!

What garbage. Let Ford, GM, and Chrysler file Chapter 11. If they want to take their jets, so be it.

The Ford CEO has vowed to work for One dollar a year if they get the bailout.
Not to be outdone, the GM CEO has vowed to work for 75 cents a year.

The Chrysler CEO called these pay proposals absurd and said he could not possibly stay on at Chrysler for less than 10 dollars a month.

The Ford CEO should one-up them and ride a bike the whole way. That way no one can b1tch about fossel fuels being burnt, or any green house gasses being emitted.
