That's what makes the GD forum fun; general discussion.

I didn't see anyone jump on him. It was just a comment, but some people get upset when anything is questioned, I guess. Tough noogies.

1) thats smart IMO, no one likes freezing there *** off in their trucks on a cold morning, i remember how slow my old f150 and my moms expedition would heat up
2) thank you! your pumping a few extra pennies (which isn't alot but more than last5oh) into the economy!

That's true.

Even with colder weather, like say the -15C area, I start it, let it idle for about 2 minutes, and then go. I just take it nice and easy until I see that temperature gauge get closer to the operating temp.

I believe the owners manual recommends not letting it idle for long on a cold startup as well.

When the thermometer starts getting closer to -20, I plug the block heater in.

I highly recomend using a toaster. In about once ever ten years,we may get a week of temperatures in the teens. I do remember one year the temp hovered about 10F, for about 3 days. I thought Hell froze over!
Believe it or not, sometimes you here about some idiot that cracked a head because they never bother to check the antifreeze.

The "real" American way would be to park the truck in the garage and heat the garage. I do know one guy that still does this. (3 car garage) Just plugging in a block heater is pretty economical by comparison.
