Wink Waht ISP do you use ?

Who do you use for internet?
I recently changed to Duesouth from Prodigy.
Duesouth seems to be quicker and I have yet to get booted off or a busy signal.

last semester i was using OSU's network server, no dial up, great connection, fast and reliable.
over the summer i used Geotech, it was okay, it had its slow moments, and if i got a busy signal all you had to do was call the support tech and they would knock some one off who was idle so that you could dial in.
this semester i'm using Ionet, gotten a couple of busy signals, been knocked off a couple of times.
the thing i hate the most right now is my piece of crap Compaq. never had any major problems w/ it until i started having to use dial-up to get to the internet.

Well this is bound to **** someone off but AOL completely sucks a major suck. It is absolutely the worst P.O.S. ISP I have ever used for the one day I did. I have been using GTE for two years never kicked off or busy signals.

For a FREE ISP go to www.altavista.com and download their starter package. Then you can call your current provider and tell them to cancel your service.
AltaVista lets the advertisers pay for your service with a small window that's always there. It only took me a few hours to totally ignore it.
Good luck.

I use Bellsouth. I used to use AOL, but they SUCK!! I had really fast connections with AOL but I kept getting booted off every 5 minutes. Bellsouth is slower, but much more reliable.

Exclamation

Remeber AOL doesn't have the flashing lights to monitor modem performance.
I've seen AOL show a 56k connection on a 33k modem

Talking

After a couple of years with AOL, I have gotten fed up with kickoffs, slow connects and slow downloads.

Last week, I signed on with Bellsouth.net, and so far I have faster connection time, no kickoffs and faster download of photos etc.

I will run parallel for a month or so to double check the results, but I think AOL is not going to be in my future.

AOL is a wonderful service for those who travel a lot. Local toll free numbers abound and 800 number available for a small fee.

Personally, I use an ADSL hookup at 768Kbps thru the local phone company to a local ISP. It's always on. Never busy. Higher level of security, never a dropoff, and less prone to flooding when compared to cable modems. Costs more, but it's a premium I'm willing to pay to avoid the pitfalls of cable modems. Besides, my cable tv service really sucks when compared to the dependable phone company.

I tried AOL and couldn't stand it. I now use Pacbell. I have never gotten a busy signal and really have no complaints (that's very unusual for me). My buddy in the next town over has a cable modem that he uses w/AOL. He is very happy, but more because of the speed than because of AOL. I WANT a cable modem, but my cable company doesn't offer it yet. They are saying some time next year.
Take care,
-Chris
