Picked up my 2000 F150 SC 4X2 Lariat about an hour ago - had to stop driving (didn't want to use my whole warantee up the 1st day) LOVE the truck - Anyone got any good advice for a truck newbie?

When the weekend gets here, pack a picnik lunch for the whole family and go for a drive Lots of family bonding and you still get to be with your new truck.
When you return home, wash and wax it. Allot about 3 hours for this. If you have kids, give them the job of cleaning out the inside. Congradulations on new truck

Cool

As soon as you've got 3000 miles on it, change the oil and filter.
Replace with Mobil 1 filter and add Mobil 1 5W30.
Your transmission and differential already has synthetic oil in them from the factory.
Mobil One every 5k (3k if towing) and the truck's engine will outlive you

Congratulations!

It might be better to change the oil between 1200-1500 miles to make sure you get any metal filings out. I've heard this from a mech. I know.

Thanks for all the advice y'all. I've read all the threads on oil - general theme seems to be Mobil 1. 54regcab - I agree this can get adictive - seems like all I do is work, read this Message Board and sleep (not necessarly in that order), ooops and drive my truck. Thanks again!

My advise is DO NOT LET YOUR WIFE DRIVE it. Mine didn't want to at first, said it was to big. Lately it seems like all I get are visitation rights on weekends . Hate it when I get in there and all my CD's are changed out.

Brain-Dad,

First thing you really really should do is remove your spare tire from under the bed and install some protective rug or something like it to prevent your spare from being all marked up like the rest of us! If I had known this when I bought the truck, Iwould have done just that, now at 3000 miles my spare looks like crap and Ford tells me its not a problem that the tire has 8 deep welts in the sidewall

Thanks cloaker - we just replaced all our carpeting with ceramic tile - I'll heed your advice.

Davensa - I'm gonna try and make Austin - let you know early next week.

This is a GREAT site - felt sorry for my salesman, I knew 10 times more about 150's than he did. Clued him in on "the crack", last I saw him he was headed for the Used truck lot.

I have the opposite problem... It's the wife's truck But, if I'm really really good she lets me drive it.
