Thumbs down

I've been guilty of putting on the high beams after someone has passed b/c I don't like to be behind people on 2 lane highways, but I usually do it b/c they were tailgaiting me until they had the oppurtunity to pass. I have had people put the high beams on me after I have passed but it doesn't bother me b/c I end up so far ahead of them anyway.
I have had this Chevy truck tailgaiting me and I tapped my brakes to get him to back off, once the 2 lanes open up to 4 the passenger flips me off after they pass me. Why did he do that?? I definently didn't deserve it, I just tapped my brakes not slam on them.
I do feel bad about my driving habits when I do get involved in road rage. And I try to tell myself "today I will not speed, today I will not do break-neck accelerations", of course I usually fail at this, but I'm trying.

I think we've all done things on the road that we regret. I was sitting at a light when this kid pulled up beside me with the music blasting. Don't get me wrong, I like music. I just didn't like his. I knew my stock radio was no match for what he was putting out so I decided to make a little 'music' of my own. I began to break wind, first a low groan, gradually building to a violent crescendo. As I began to feel lightheaded I noticed I had forgot to roll the window down.
He hadn't even been aware of my attack!
The last thing I remember is him driving away, before I was overcome.

Let me just add that when I had the Celica and downshifted in front of slow drivers, I was very young. I do not do stupid things at all anymore after two years as a volunteer firefighter. I have splinted gelatin-like appendages of innocent drivers injured by other stupid drivers. In the end, lookout for yourself and who cares how others drive. I don't even notice the high beams any more.

Raoul, I just had 4 people ask me why I was laughing so hard. Very well done! Just remember to roll down your window next time.

Corey,

Yeah, you blew it and I think you know it. We all make mistakes that we regret later. The thing is, you gotta learn from this experience.

My solution to high beams behind me is to readjust all my mirrors to shine the headlights right back at them. It's not hard to do. For the interior rear view mirror, just watch the light beam on the ceiling of the cab and when you have it centered, just lower it. Swing the outside mirrors too. If you have a passenger, get them to do the same with the vanity mirror. Believe me. This works. They get the idea real fast.

The alternative is just to let them pass you if you don't want to speed.

Not to take away from Raouls's flatulence story, but I will never forget his advice to watch how fast responses build up on a given thread topic to find a hot spot. I watch for this signal in a very religious way.
As a side note, and not dealing with the specific one time issue here, this topic sadly reminded me of many, many mistakes I made in earlier years regarding I guess what I would call judgement calls that could have resulted in disaster. Thank goodness, I was very lucky, but I sure did my share of "boners".

Reminds me of the time someone had cutt me off dangerously and I chased them down and blocked their car, and got out to "take care of business." When I came rushing up to the car the lady with child sitting next to her began to stutter "wwwhaaat dooo yyyou wwwant?" I just lost it and almost stuttered back, from having so much energy and now no where to release it, "Did you know you almost killed me back there?" she said "No" and I actully returned with "Well please be carfull when changing lanes, have a nice day." I figure the scare alone had an impact on her.
It's kinda funny how people can be jerk while protected by the confines of the vehicle, but when you realize that these "other drivers" ARE people too, it kind of humbles you.
Lifes short, take it easy.

Good one (as always) Raoul. Corey: I think the a$$hole behind ya put his brights on because he was having a difficult time seeing your commute finger. Not saying what you did was right but he was obviously not trying to avoid a confrontation either...two wrongs is er...ah...two wrongs. But I think what gets these people really riled up is their concern for fellow members...ya coulda got yer a$$ hurt(no *****). Yeah, I know you know that.

Wow!

What a hot item, I think we've all been guilty of these type of actions at some point.

I'm not here to judge anyone, but just share my thoughts on the subject:

The main thing that helps me control my anger and not seek "revenge" is the thought of other people.

Not only my wife and kids at home waiting for me, but also the innocent passengers in the vehicle. In some cases, even innocent passengers in vehicles behind you and the a-hole.

Life is short, just remember "His problems and my problems are not the same".

If anyone ever tries to tell you they never did anything that was not the "smartest" alternative, I wouldn't listen to them. I might not agree with what you did Corey, but I really think people should give you advise that will perhaps make you see things differently, as opposed to attacking you. In hindsight, maybe you'll see that it was not the most "level headed" thing to do..

When I was MUCH younger, and someone tailgated me, since I was usually driving a land yacht, I would speed up, and slam on the brakes and go WOT and lose them. Nothing in the world used to get me more mad then a tailgater..until..one day, my Dad gave me this advise: the tailgater might be an idiot, but if he has his kids, or passengers with him in the car, you put them at risk...do they deserve it? nope. So today, when someone tailgates me, I take my foot off the gas until they pass me or give me room...if that doesn't work, I pull over and let them pass.
In the end, they don't matter, unless I force them to rear end me, in which case they now become a part of my life..no thanks!

About the "he can't prove it" thing.
I hope he doesn't know about this message board.
Millions of people around the world have access to it.
I seriosly doubt he knows of this board but people have strange ways of finding stuff out.

Cool

I really don't seem to have any problems with other drivers at night. I've never had anybody get behind me and flash their brights at me, of course I wouldn't flash my hi beams at somebody either if they had lights all over their truck (of the KC kind). Guess it's just respect, I think it's funny. Yall take care, and be careful on the road.
