give respect when due...
It's too early to head out yet, but I'm reading the day by day ice reports and with the cold temperatures we've been getting, and according to the forecast, we may be on the ice within the next couple of weeks. I'm not one to push it. I like good safe ice before I head out.
If you get a jet we won't be fishing here. Pick me up and we'll a little further north where we won't be able to keep those mnsters off our lines
The way I look at is this: Chevy, Dodge and Ford all make good trucks. The major difference to me is that I know that I could put a 1/2 ton in my 1/2 ton truck, and even more if I needed to. The Ford will work for its entire life, and GMs and Chevys will not. Thats just my opinon.
I have owned Fords my whole like, my brother has owned Chevy's his entire life.

Funny you mention that Tumba, because my plan for today is to take out all the gear and make sure it's working. I'm going to gas up the auger as well and start it up, and sharpen the blades.

Ford is built tough and does not and has not.
Next time you want to call a chevy or doge owner out point this out and ask why one has them and one dose not need them.
I'm gonna tell it like it is! I've worked many a construction detail for a local construction company! They have a huge fleet of everything from F-150's to F-550's! All I can tell you is that they don't even bother buying GM's! I've personally was shown many an odometer on several F-150's in their fleet with well over 200,000-300,000 miles! Hard, construction site miles! Enough said!.....
Look in the wheel wells. Chevy and Doge have these cheezy support rods to keep the flimsy body from flexing.

One of these type? The pike we get here are called Northern Pike.
Crappie are my favorite.
How deep are you fishing on average?
Is that just above the bottom?
But anyway , I'll stick to the warmer variety of fishing.
Cold weather is not my thing.
I have a swamp that would prolly give you the heeby jeebies.
There may even be things in it that should not be there.
I've not seen a gator there yet, but they are inn surrounding Bayous and rivers here. and more Beaver than you can catch.

Yup Northerns like that, but I've never caught one that big through the ice, yet. I fish anywhere from 6-60 feet deep, but it just depends on what I'm fishing for. I do a lot of Crappie fishing as well. Usually the fishing is done just off the bottom, and I have an underwater camera to watch what's going on down there.

It does up your odds, but it's like the old saying goes; "You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink". Just because you have a fishfinder, or underwater cam, it doesn't mean the fish are going to bite. It simply ups your odds in finding them and watching what they do.
If it wasn't for the underwater cam, in many cases I'd have thought there were no fish. It's amazing what you see, even though you're not catching anything. They could be sitting there watching your bait, even mouthing it, but not actually taking it.

Good luck converting these people man. Some people just have that "blind faith" trait. They try one thing, say it's awesome, never try the other and call them crap. You can't talk to them.
GM has it's positives and negatives. The positives are engines. That's what Chevrolet has always been about, raw gas sucking power. You can't get away with raw power nowadays. It has to be fuel efficient, it has to look good and ride ride good. The current GM's still have the best engines with good power and MPG's while Ford doesn't, but the Fords look better, ride better, have a sturdier frame and are cheaper. That's what sells.
My father owned a 1997 GMC Suburban 2500, and that was the best looking truck I've ever seen and it had more power then we could use. I still think that those trucks are one of the best looking trucks of all time. The only issue that he ran into with it was that the fuel pump went out, but that was after he put over 100K on it.
After driving my 2000 Ranger for 4 years, I swore I would never own another Ford with all the crap that truck gave me, but when truck prices were so low during the "gas crisis", I found a cheap good looking F150 and couldn't pass it up. I thought that anything would be better then a Ranger, even if it was made by the same company. And it turns out that I made the right decision. Hopefully my truck will last 10 years and will keep going at 300,000 miles like many have.
