Stupid Question...Perhaps
Damn!!!
I'm really sorry I stirred up such a hornets nest and that was not my intention at all.
Due to my home office being repainted, my home PC has been out of action for most of a week and I only get on the laptop once in a while. It seems I may have missed some of the posts on that thread which is why I asked the question.
One good thing came out of all of this, I learned what rickrolled is, something I had never heard of before.
Regarding my comment about Meritocracy etc., I will let that go as it was probably not the best of subjects to get into just now.
However, if I may answer part of Old Doggs post, my background through my father is the Marine Corps.
I remembered a little of the history of women Generals in the Corps and came up with these "milestones" if I can call them that.
Brig Gen Brewer was the first woman General/Admiral appointed in any of the services in 1978.
Lt. Gen Mutter was promoted to Lt. Gen. in 1996, the first woman to attain that rank and both she and Gen. Brewer were at those times the ranking woman in all of the services.
Brig. Gen. Salinas became the CG of the Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego in 2006, the first woman to hold that very important position in any of the services.
So, I think at least the Marine Corps is very comfortable with promoting people based on merit. I can't find the link just now, but I think about 20% plus of current Marine Generals are women.
Again, I apologize for asking what turned out to be a stupid question.

I think rickrolling is funny. :o
On April 1st, 2008, aka April Fool's day, YouTube had every featured video on the home page turned into a rickroll. I was rickrolled that day, and many others. I find it funny, and then the song gets stuck in my head.

Remember Huckabee? He lived in a tripple wide behind the Govenors MAnsion, during remodleing

Yep! I live in Arkansas. It was just funny to me.

I think he did live in the big house, during most of his time in office. It was also
a great thing he did.

Seriously is it when you click on a link and window after window opens?
Everytime I closed it , another opened

It was irritating.
To some it is funny.:santa:
Since this thread is spinning like a top anyway......
There seem to be two threads that could go from hornet's nest to nuclear in the next little bit of time.
The Economy vs The Union as being responsible for the possible future fate of GM.
And, as already pointed out, the President's Ride.
I haven't posted on either, but regarding the Limo thread, I wonder how many of our members have ever been to a live Black stand up comedy show that was aimed at a black audience.
Before I quit drinking and driving it was sort of a mini hobby of mine.
If you think Whites diss on Blacks, this is a whole different world. Those men and women are brutal but also brutally funny. I always hope it is done for fun.
And, I don't mean watching such a show on TV or watching a DVD. You have to be in the audience, participating, to get the real feel of it. Especially the comments of the audience.
It will be interesting to see how the threads develop.

The standups I've seen weren't that great. There aren't many choices in this rural metropolis I live in.
But I always loved it when Richard Pryer got on us crackers. Whoopie Goldberg too.
No one was safe, you never new what was next, and I don't think they always did either.

As far as how blacks joke about themselves....all I can say is that if you feel the need to go around blacks and repeat slurs and negative jokes...
Please do so.

Nothing hurts my feelings unless it affects my money, my truck or my sex life.

Long ago when I was in the military we used to sit around and tell jokes...some racial, some ethnic some sexist. When you already know someone it's just different than a stranger saying something you may not like. In public forums I learned it's best not to tell them lest you be insulted yourself. Everyone has buttons. The joke may not be the funniest but...
The easiest target is always the minority group since the majority laugh loudest.
I think George Carlin was funnier than Eddie Murphy or Richard Prior.
Eddie and Richard came along during a time when there were boundaries to push and it was allowed. I don't like whites using the "N" word so I removed it from my public vocabulary long ago. As I said before....If someone non black needs to use the word around blacks, please do so but don't hide on the internet, please do it in person.
