i dont know whether i should shrug it off or what, this guy just rear ended my ranger tonight. i feel bad cause the guy was super nice, and i slowed down on my free right turn (yield sign and sweeping turn lane) cause i heard some horns blowin and thought i was about to cut someone off. next thing i know is the rear of the ranger jumped and there was a bang like the tailgate fell. i mean we were maybe doing 20 mph when i slowed down?
i'll post pics of the rangers bumper curled under the body. i really should have took pics of his cars damage. another case of the folded upper half of the front clip and a new 90 degree in the hood. i asked what he wanted to do and he said it was up to me. i just shrugged and told him it didnt matter cause i didnt get the brunt of the damage and i have spare parts at home.

i had a guy in a ranger put nice dent on the bed on my f150 pretty bad last winter. it was black ice. i was pulling out he had the red light but just slid right thru it... hit the back of my bed. he was nice about it. he knew it was 100% and i saw he tryed to stop. we exchanged insurance info etc.. and went on our way.next day i call his insurance CANCELLED..and of course this guy isnt answering his phone..or his door.. lesson of this story..always call the police. ive since sold the 150 but.. even if i wanted to bring him to small claims court what proof do i have? its good that you have spare parts to fix it. you never know if this guy will change his story or try to screw you somehow. get the cops there to cover your a$$. chances are if you tell the cop dont worry about it.dont give him a citation etc.. the cop wont.

Unrelated, but one time I had let my insurance lap without thinking about it, and I went to a concert that evening. After the concert, I went across the road from the place to a gas station to grab a pack of Camels, and when I came out, there was nobody behind me. I always check before I get in to make sure I am not going to run over someone or something like that.
I jump in the truck, my friend jumps in the passenger side, no drinking, no drugs, I check my mirrors, look out the back window over the bedcover and throw it in reverse. I get up to about 4 miles an hour, hear a crunch, come to a dead stop, so I put it in park and jump out.
There's a brand new convertible Eclipse sitting there up under my rear bumper, very nice crinkle in the hood, with my trailer hitch all the way through it.
Diamond Dallas Page (or a very good mpersonator) gets out and starts cussing me, just going off, his (hot) girlfriend gets out of the passenger side and tries to calm him down. He finally kicks a trash can and takes off to the McDonald's beside the station where we were.
The cop shows up and asks what happened. She says that she drove up behind me and I back into her. Gas station attendant comes out, tells the cop that isn't what happened, he saw the guy driving and I still hadn't got to talk to the cop. The cop tells her that she had better find him and get him back there to the scene or he was taking both her and him to jail.
DDP finally shows back up with the girl, and it turns out that her husband is a doctor, bought her the car that morning, and DDP was not her husband. They didn't want him on the police report because if they did, her husband would know she was out with him.
The girl and DDP decided not to file an accident report, she said she would just tell her husband that she was at the mall or something and someone hit and run it. The cop assured her that there would never be a chance to file anything against me if I left before he did, and she said to go on, not to worry about it.
I had a scratch that was almost an inch long right on the ball of my hitch, nothing else was even touched, and her car was smashed pretty bad, but when they said leave I got the heck out of there before I got put in the Diamond Cutter.
Kind of unrelated, but there's a good story about driving without insurance, something I have never done and never will do again!

I got hit last weekend at work - guy tried to back up a 8' open trailer (of all things) and backed it into the rear of my truck. Ended up denting the chrome a little, gashed a large spot about 1.5-2 inches on the plastic step pad, and also broke part of the trailer light plug cover.
Sounds worse than it was - he was nice and all and kinda freaked out (worried wise)... I told him to have a good day. If I had a new truck that I babied I may have made an issue, but after what someone did to my front bumper this fall I really don't care anymore (hit and run - multiple dents, some large, and scrapes in the chrome and plastic valance).
I'd say you did the right thing. All too often people nowadays seem to be too pc, too ready to sue you for anything, etc. Hard to find good, honest people imho

Someone rearended me in my Ranger in the EXACT same way you are describing. However there was no damage. I was not about to call the Police. My insurance is way too high to be calling the police on crap like that.
Florida has no fault insurance so no matter what party is at fault your insurance still van and normally will go up. Fact of the matter was that i was paying $2,400 a year with a clean record and i wasnt about to make that get any higher.

ah found more damage and the cause of why the bumper folded so bad... dad took half the hardware out of the bumper mount when he took the drop hitch off. and some how the tether ball pole with concrete base which was strapped down split the top right of the bed side off the front of the bed.
still not sure i want to worry about it, his insurance called me tho. should i even bother calling his insurance co?

if you can fix it yourself then thats good but.. cops never came right?? so there is no poilce accident report? his insurance company is gonna want that. gotta get the cops immediately at the scene and have the report. after that you guys can make a deal etc...no insurance companys involved etc... you want to be able to trust people these days but.. gotta cover yourself first.
