4 more years.....

Well guys I took the plunge today and reenlisted for another 4 years in the USAF. I hope they go as good as the last 10 years. I put on E-6 December 1st.

I got mixed emotions about it but you gotta do what you gotta do.....

Happy Veterans day!!

I bailed after 10, and regret it to this day (Would have retired 8/24/2007).

You're half way there. You won't regret it.

Good luck Harley.

Our unit retention NCO was in excellent shape, everytime he saw me he'd break into a four mile run, in the other direction.

I'd like to take credit for his physical conditioning but, all I ever said was, "Hey Sarge, I wanna re-enlist..."

Good luck and thanks for your service. What made you decide on another four? Are you going to go for 20?

well i really dont know wtf to do with my life, but i know i dont want to be a civilian police officer. get little to no respect and you got to work 25+ hrs extra a month in off duty details just to make decent money around here.

i applied for a bunch of govt jobs like security manager, investigator, range patrol, FD dispatcher, etc (about 40+ in total) and got only one phone call. no interviews.

as much as i wanted to get out, be selfish and be able to do WHATEVER THE F*CK i want to do everyday, sometimes you just gotta man up and think about your family. im married and we are talking about having kids so i want to make sure they are taken care of financially/medically. being out with no job security in tough economic tims wouldnt be best for that.

besides an E-6 with 10+ yrs makes pretty good money. $3000 something a month base pay, (as of jan 09) my housing allowance is around $1350, and food allowance is around $250, so i could be doing much worse.

yes i will most likely do 20 now. once you pass the 10 year crossroad, its not reallly smart to get out imo.

I think you are doing the right thing. It's not like there are a million good paying jobs out there, plus you put in 10 already. I was too restless to join when I was 20, but should have, I'd be retired now, with a great second career, not that I'm complaining, but you can do worse than 20 in the service. An old friend of mine did 16 in the Navy and got out, don't know why he didn't just finish.
