Should I Get a Wii?
Well, here's the situation. Christmas is coming up and I'm thinkin' bout gettin a Wii. Several stores around here have them in stock, so I have to act soon if I want to get one before Christmas.
To start, I am trying to get out of the "hardcore gaming" thing. Before I started thinking about a Wii, I was planning on dumping $200 into my PC for a new CPU, mainly so I could play IV without worries, but is $200 worth one game? Especially with a dying PC gaming market, combined with the fact I am trying to spend less and less time on my computer for games.
The Wii looks good to me. It has looked good since it came out, and I figured, that beginning rough-patch period is past where they got all the kinks out and some games are actually available. I considered an xbox, but it quickly added up to over $600 with what I was going to get. I think a Wii would be more fun, and I would be hooking it up to our 46" Bravia in the family room, so it would be fun for all of us and my friends.
If anyone with a Wii could chip in that would be great. I'm interested in if there are any known problems with the Wii, and if there is anything I should reconsider. I have heard about poor sensor-detecting and not-so-great graphics, but aside from that I have nothing but positive reviews.
Thanks!

There is very very little games out for the Wii that are worth a plug nickle. I have one and haven't played it in 5 months. Mario Kart is about the only game worth it for the Wii IMO. Sure Mario and Zelda and Metroid are nice. But pick up a review magazine and you will see how bad they bash almost every game released for the Wii.
Thanks for the reply. If I didnt make the point already, I'd like to make clear this won't be 24/7 gaming. Definitly a leisurely thing for fun once in a while, i dont have time to play video games everyday, but i think it would definitly be a fun thing to have for the weekends.

Yeah I'm ready for the Lake Effect, we got about 2 inches last sunday/monday here. I'm not ready for the Bills though
. I wish the team would get their **** together.
I am by no means a hardcore gamer. I think I have maybe logged in 3 hours of game time this week total. And that was on my PS3. If you are buying it for party fun, then Rock Band or something like that may be more to your liking.

The wii is quite novel... At first. I got bored with it after a few hours. The graphics are no where near the ps3 or 360, nor are the games. It just doesn't have the processing power as the others.
I guess if you enjoy the swinging of your arms around and would rather do that than go outside and play a real sport then a Wii may be for you. Girls do seem to get a kick out of them occasionally so that is a plus.

I personally think the wii was a viral thing. The only reason someone bought it was because someone else had one. I know, for me, I went to a friends house, played his, and then wanted to get one myself. 3 months later,... bored.
If you are looking to replace a PC, I'de go with the PS3. Its more than a "gaming console" its an entertainment system. Play movies, surf internet, play games. Hell you can even load windows or linux on it.

I'm still undecided. The fact it has already added up to $400 with extra controllers, cables, etc etc, really is turning me off. I will probably just hold on to the money and get everyone much nicer christmas gifts, and get me some new taillights

GET IT. GET IT NOW. RIGHT NOW, Lol
well i had a wii (traded it for 40g ps3 last week) and they are real fun when you first get em and really i liked it and may very well pick another up sometime...... but the big turn off for me was the funky controls i just never got use to and the lack of games i mean i was raised on mario but COME ON!!, but all i ever played on mine was guitar hero 3 and they make that for any system so when i got the chance i got the ps, in closing its perfect if your wanting to mess with it every now and again,.... and even at that youll feel the game crunch from time to time for but still for the price id say go for it

I will give you my opinion. I think it is really cool, but it gets old quick. I played Zelda for a week or two and the kids played Mario for awhile but nobody even bothers with it anymore. Some of the games are cool like darts and skee ball, but again it gets old quick. I would say unless you are buying it for a 6-8 year old or getting it for little house parties when you have a few guest over and your playing it, forget it. Stick with the 360 or the Playstation 3..I also bought Tiger Woods 08 for the Wii and have never touched it, it drove me bannas. I went back and got the 360 version and played the game for a couple of months.
