College Application Time
College Application Time
Anyone wanna offer some advice to filling these things out? I just got done doing everything I could. Parents are going to do whats left in the parental fields and I'm going to give out both letter of recommendations to teachers I know very well. I'm sweating bullets cause this is going for Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach. My dream college and if I dont get accepted I'm going to go crazy. Need your guys' $.02 on this (especially those who are currently in college)
1.) How long does it take before you get your accepted/declined letter?
2.) Is it normal to be sweating bullets?
3.) Anything I could add to help my chances?
-Alex
Edit: Forgot to add, I'm looking to go for 4 years for my BS major in Aeronautical Science and minor in Air Traffic Control.

I plan to, but I've got REALLY high hopes on this one. the others arent as promising as this one. With a 99% hiring rate within a year of graduation, this is the big cheese for me.

I think I waited a month maybe??? can't remember, that was five years ago
2.) Is it normal to be sweating bullets?
I guess...I wasn't worried about getting into my university, the bar wasn't extremely high, just a good SAT score and good high school grades.
3.) Anything I could add to help my chances?
Like said before, apply to other schools. other than that just make sure you have a good SAT score

Hard to say as I'm not familiar with that school or their requirements. Normally, schools have a middle ground on what gets you accepted. Have higher grades/test scores/whatever and you're certain to get in, have less and you have to work a bit harder or get lucky.
If it's like most schools, it's about the grades and test scores. Figure out what it normally takes to get in and you'll have a good idea where you stand and that may or may not end your worries.

I agree, apply for more than one. Considering what you are going into, I'd suggest looking at the University of North Dakota. It has an amazing program, some consider it better than Embry-Riddle. Plus it has the best hockey stadium in the world and the greatest college hockey team of all time.

Just apply to different schools with a variety of acceptance levels. Then just chill and have a beer to prepare for the dorms
Don't sweat it it just makes the wait longer. Normally they post it online when you will receive their decision.

dont pay attention to that 99% employment bullcrap. If you graduated and went to work at Bob's gas station running a register, the university would consider you to be 'employed in the area of undergraduate diploma.'
Apply to 3 or 4 schools. If you have a solid GPA and a clean record, you'll be fine. NEVER put all of your eggs in one basket. That goes for school applications, job hunting, etc. Always make options, then it will be a matter of making choices. No options=No choices.
Im 24, in graduate school for business (MBA)...I graduate in May. Best advice I can give you is to simply get involved on campus. Make campus activities your life. Doing this will put you in touch with a lot of people, and you never know when this might pay off. Student organizations, professional (not social) fraternaties, intramural sports, student religious activities, student senate/government, and any leadership positions will help you gain depth in your education. It also helps come interview time. Trust me, it feels good to be confident and able to talk about your experiences during an interview. (once again, create options for yourself). Dont wait to start these things...start your freshman year and you'll be amazed come graduation at all of the things you've done.
Get ready for a crazy ride! Ahh, to be a freshman again...

I'm in the same boat as you, I hate college apps but I jus finished my apps to ole miss, uf uga vandy duke and emory, and I just got my acceptance to ole miss tonight, when you get yours really depends on what school olemiss was bout 3 weeks but I won't know bout vandy duke and emory till April, good luck
well the last few years my math wasnt the greatest. failed miserably last year, and almost everyone in my class did too. i hate that teacher, but now im maintaining a <3.0 GPA. even put my VFD and voluteer help at fly-ins for community extracurricular activities.
im going down there on the 25th for open house. if i am accepted, they credit my student account with $250 for travelling down there and waive the $50 application fee
side note: the college is ON the airport, its a 10 min walk to the racetrack, and a few miles to the beach, home of the greatest spring breaks. cant wait to get out of the sticks where i live with inbred rednecks and meet some REAL women

Haha so harsh, but seriously raptor i just looked up that school and if you have a pulse you can get in there..
Don't have personal experience with that school, but they say they have rolling admission. Since they won't be very backed up this early on, you should hear back pretty soon. Took about a month when I applied to A&M about the same time last of year. Best of luck.
