I feel it is money well spent. We have to preserve our history, so people can get an idea where we came from and how we can win. We the people need to get behind our troops and stay there.
103 foot beam 110 foot channel. That was a challenge I bet.

Why do you expect to get slamed? The ticket funds will pay for it eventually.
They do charge admission don't they?
I know I've payed to go on many tours of ship and museums. The best so far would be Battleship park Mobile. That SR71 is a crowd getter. I haven't toured an essex carrier, but have stood on the dock beside the Enterprise after it was decommisioned. The sheer size is amazing.

Good point, and I missed the admission charge. At today's charge, it would be paid for in less than 10 years which is not so bad.

I was perhaps reacting too harshly to the current economic environment which might indicate that such an expenditure was not really necessary.
On the other hand, this was obviously in the works for some years and is not really related to today's situation.

Just to be pissy, though, I would bet with some certainty that this was a New Jersey earmark tacked on to some obscure spending bill a few years ago.
And... I am sure it was probably very, very profitable for the company that did the job.

I do believe in preserving our history, but for the most part, I contribute directly to such projects on an individual basis, outside of our tax system.
