Did Congress do the Right Thing?

I think my letter says it all:
Representative Murtha,
I would like to urge you to Vote AGAINST the Bail Out Bill presented by President Bush's Administration.
I realize there may be some tough times ahead but I as an American am prepared to endure these hardships while the Markets go through their much needed re-adjustments.
700 Billion dollars is just TOO much money. I would rather have the burden placed on Myself and experience the economic down turn, than have my Childred pay down our Deficits later.
Sincerely,
William Hibbs

Yikes, don't worry, I caught the Spelling issue! Mostly because of this message:
The House of Representatives is currently experiencing an extraordinarily high amount of email traffic. The Write Your Representative function is therefore intermittantly available. While we realize communicating to your Members of Congress is critical, we suggest attempting to do so at a later time, when demand is not so high. System engineers are working to resolve this issue and we appreciate your patience.

I'm still on the fence with this one. Part of me sees the need to stabilize the economy the other side wants the clowns that got us into this mess to pay for their crimes.
The Pro-Bailout side hears the doomsday prophets and is greatly concerned. The problem is they aren't very clear on what bad things will happen. Call me a skeptic but if someone is not very clear with the details they are either hiding something or they don't know what they are talking about.
The "make them pay" side keeps coming back to these thoughts.
1) The people that got us into this mess want us to give us more money. Why they have already shown that they can not be trusted with the money they have. Why should we essentially give them a blank check?
2) The people that stand to benefit the most from the bailout are the ones most upset about it not passing. Of course they want it passed.
All sides of me want to know what is going to be done to stop this from happening again. I really don't want to buy a very expensive band-aide and not fix the real problem.
