Ike Survivors post up

I am in Laporte and Hurricane Ike really hit us hard this weekend. I am so lucky to have power on less than 24hrs after the storm. There are 4 million without power tonight throughout the state. We had lots of trees and powerlines down around here. Galveston is pretty much destroyed and tons of debris all over. There is no gas and when a station does open it has a line about 50 cars long. I will post some post storms pics shortly. Winds were about 100 mph here and the eye passed over as well. I didnt get to see though because we went to my aunts house about 70 miles away.

Everyone with pics should post them up here.

About a mile from my house:

A local church I went to when I was in grade school:

A Frontier that has been in all the 4wd mags. Lost his u joints and it was just sitting there with a high lift jack holding the rear up for some reason. It is so tall he had about 3 2x4s under the jack to reach it!! Cool truck though.

Some more

Galveston bay in clear lake. This is off Nasa Road. Boats were up over the bridge, but it was much worse in seabrook. They wont even let us go that far yet. Police are real strict about curfew. Dusk till Dawn they call it. Cops all over and patrol all night with their spot lights.

Heres about 3 miles from my house. Its like this around every corner.

Walmart HAD gas. About 50 cars long on the road and about 10-15 cars in the lot at every pump.

Front of my house:

My backyard after I got the chainsaw out. A tree was uprooted and leaning on the house and up against the winows. Luckily they held up.

well im wasnt living at home, but my parents came up from West Columbia (Angleton/Freeport Area) and we have phone, but no power. Luckily we were on the dry side of Ike, so we just got winds and about 3-4" of rain....

Thanks for posting these detailed pics. It really helps to open the eyes of those that never experience these types of storms.

Did many people die due to Ike? Was Ike as bad as Katrina?

Katrina was a totally different story. It wasnt really the actual storm that caused all the deaths. A levee broke and it flooded the city becuase the actual city itself is below sea level. The levee is just like a wall that stops the water.

I think it will be more then 8 dead after they check galveston. You cant even get to the west end yet and thats where all the total loss is. Houses are just gone and streets are completely washed out. They said there was a 4 year old that died from carbon monoxide poisoning from a generator, which they said alot of people have been to the ER for.

The plane was always parked in the back corner of the airport, I think they were restoring it. It was still in the airport but it moved a good 300 yards from where it usually parked. I think it wrapped around a pole and thats what tore it in half.
