Let the dove hit the ground!

Guys I'm so pumped for dove season it's nuts this year. Add to it that my son if finally old enough to go with me this year even if it is with a cap gun and as head bird fetcher.

The way most hunters are about deer season I am about dove season. Opening day is like Christmas!

Hitting the Texas panhandle during the week and Western Oklahoma on the weekends.

I can already taste those little gems all wrapped up in bacon with onions and peppers.

There is no better quality of time spent together than time outdoors. Im the same way about duck hunting as you are about dove.

What upsets me is that there are people out there right now that work everyday to try and take our gun rights away and ban all hunting. And now poeple are considering voting a president in that have made these his goals to.

I wish all the best of luck to you and your son. Make sure you keep us updated on the harvest.

Haven't gone dove hunting yet, seems like it would take several to make a meal. I prefer something a bit larger. Good luck

Hell yeah Jolly! Our opener in PA is Monday. There will be 6 of us hitting a sweet hidden cut wheat field that we have been keeping an eye on for a week or so. Dove hunting can be a humbling experience if you "think" you are a good shot. It's a total blast.

That is the best part about bird hunting. You get to shoot a whole lot more than if you are a big game hunter. You have more animals to harvest, and in many cases a much longer season. Back home deer season is 2 1/2 weeks and best case you can shoot one buck and a doe or two. Pheasant season (my favorite) lasts mid-Oct to the first weekend in Jan, with a limit of 3/day. My personal record for a season (back when limit was 4/day) was 163 birds. I was in high school and went every weekend and after school many days.

Don't get me wrong, I do love deer hunting. Just not as fun for me.

Yep, I farm all year to be able to sell corn to the deer hunters and to have my own Dove fields. Seems like yesterday my son was the official bird picker upper and now this is about his 5th or 6th season shooting. The state also uppped our limit to 15 birds per person per day this year. I can only imagine in a few more years, I will be picking up his birds.....

Getting stoked here also Duck hunters have no idea what shooting is all about if they have not hunted dove. It can be a humbling experience.

I cant wait for next week!! I'll be out there blasting Dove. I'm so excited. Dove season is the one thing that holds me over until Duck season. Sure Turkeys and deer are fun too, but shooting a moving target that is airborne is just too addicting.

Everyone post pictures of your birds in this thread!

PA increased our bag limit from 12 to 15 this year. Now if I can talk a few farmers into cutting their corn a little earlier this year. We always seem to get stuck in the middle of the wheat and oat harvest (taken off in early August), dove season and then the corn havest which is usually the last of September into October. Usually the last 3 to 4 days of the season is best for us. Guys start chopping the corn.

I've always wanted to plant about 20 acres of sun flowers and then brush hog them about 2 days before the opener. 2 years ago we caught a wheat field just harvested about a week before the opener. I limited out (12 birds) in 20 minutes with 3 doubles. It was just retarted the number of birds.

BENELLI - SIMPLY PERFECT!!!!!!
