I do both. I love dove hunting, but i personal think Duck Hunting is much more fun. But then again, duck hunting in the central valley of CA is amazing. I shot over 300 ducks and geese last season.

Deer season is coming up soon too, followed by fall turkey season. Im getting way too excited.

As long as you steer clear of San Francisco and a few parts of Socal, California is actually pretty country.

We are the most agriculturally productive state, there's plenty of farmers, ranchers, rednecks, etc. here. People have wanted and tried to split the state for a long time because of the false personality the state gets as a whole. Only a small % of people here are crazy left wing liberal, its just that they are so concentrated and loud, dont shut their mouths, and are in our political system (passing stupid, liberal laws) blah blah blah that they create a bad name for us.

Isn't California the happy cow state?

I wish we had more grain fields in PA. Plenty of farmers plant wheat and oats but they take them off way to early to help us dove hunters. The farmers who plant corn take the corn off after season has closed. Sucks!

I believe we have a couple of crazy left wing liberals on this site. cough *Raoul* cough

The best I've ever seen was a little spot of CRP my x-brother in law had.* The gov. told him that he had to sew it in wheat every year to keep it in the CRP program.* But they never told him when to sew it or how deep.* So he'd set it just at dirt hight and sew it a couple days before dove season.* I've never seen so many birds in my life.* Of course without the CRP thing it would have been baiting but with the way it was worded it was agriculture instead.

My main spot in OK is the only nearby water source to both the feeding grounds and roost so if they want water they have to come visit my decoys. LOL* and it's family land so no one but me and whoever is with me can hunt there since I'm the only one in the family that hunts anymore.

Place in TX is the only real trees anywhere nearby and is also where the cotton gin dumps their waste (also agriculture instead of baiting) so it's full of cotton seed along with a little playa lake and a field of corn. Should be good hunting.* Although the owner is normally farming this time of year and says that he has never hunted dove before anywhere and to his knowledge it hasn't been hunted outside of pheasant season in over 30 years.* Took a few scouting trips there and it was full of dove.

msall, where did you say you hunt again.

And for your dove shooters, what are your tools of choice. And any pics of your dogs with birds in their mouths (or in this case kids )

I use my old faithful. My Pre WWII Browning A5 12g. Third generation to use the gun and the only shotgun I've used since it was handed to me in 1987. God only knows how many thousands of rounds that thing has fired.

Lost my bird dog to cancer back in June (no bird in mouth pics handy)

Got a new Lab for Father's Day from the family but she's still too young to hunt. (she's got big shoes to fill)

My Bird fetcher ready to go. lol

For ducks I hunt outside of Arbuckle, about 30 minutes north of Davis. Dove i usually go up to Chico my buddy has some good spots up there.

My gun is a 12ga Browning Gold Hunter 3.5"

If you want to shoot some ducks this year man, let me know i'll take you and your dog out.

1904 browning A5

here is a good dove recipe

make little dove tin foil packs

place dove in the middle

place a wedge of onion and a clove of garlic into the cavity pinch of salt pepper and oregano

fold up the edges and pour a little mikes hard lemonade just a half ounce or so

cook until nearly done on a medium heat grill

remove from packet and finish cooking on grill

tender, moist, juicy, yummy,

also works well for raggit

BTW use a wood burning grill propane is for girls

Dang. I'll definitely have to try that one this year.

Mine is

take meat off the bone
marinate them in thousand island dressing overnight
sandwich a sliver of jalapeno and onion between two halves of meat
wrap in bacon and secure with a toothpick

Throw on grill till done.

man! its that time of year again. every year, on the first saturday in september (opening day of dove season) the owner of my dad's company hosts a big dove hunt. he has lots of property. in the morning, everyone shows up and goes fishing in the 3 lakes that are on the property. then he pays somebody to come out and cater lunch. after that everyone heads out to the back of the property (where the dove fields are) and they load us up on flatbeds and truck us out to one of the three fields (corn and i think hay are grown in all of them) and we hunt all day. there's at least several hundred people there, and i usually max out.

i've been going to the dove hunt since i was 13 or 14 ( i'm seventeen now) and its a blast every year. its the one thing that can pull my dad away from his georgia games!

also, this is gonna be our first year hunting deer. we got some nice property and a deerstand and are ready to go.

this is my first bird of the season in 2006 when i was 15. ohh, and i fetch my own birds

and i use a browning 20 guage BPS(Browning Pump Shotgun) because i shoot lefty. i love my shotgun.

A buddy and I shot 10 this morning. Cooked them up for brunch with some scrambled eggs and bacon.

Heading back out this afternoon to get some more, should be a good flight before sundown. I'll post pics later.
