Yay for hurricanes!

the storms, that is... school let out early and they cancelled tomorrow. possibly monday and tuesday. and so far winds are at 10 knots gusting to 12 with only a light sprinkle of rain. I've FLOWN in weather worse than this!

I picked up some QD so I might take advantage of the downfall and wash the truck tomorrow :santa:

looks like gainesville is an hour or two from the eye. my area is going to get hit my the NNW wall with some yellow bands:

its nothing now..was something, still kinda is. Around here we've had some pretty bad flooding and power outages and it only gets worse as you head towards the east coast. Cocoa got well over 20" of rainfall. In my county, schools were closed tuesday, and open yesterday and today, which didn't end up working out too well since today was the worst for us so far. Now schools are closed tomorrow since some don't have power at all, and because they don't want to take any chances with the buses.

not the worst we've ever seen by any means..but it sure has dumped a chit load of rain on us. Between the rain and the wind, i can't wait for this thing to be gone.

I lived in Orlando for 14 years and also lived down in South Florida for a while. I have seen many hurricanes and this thing is nothing but a rain storm. And Florida needs the rain anyway.

not to argue but..flooding to me sorta means too much rain. i'd say we needed some, but not this much. those afternoon showers every now and then were holding us over quite well... while now alot of roads in brevard can be traveled by boat

I know. I'll see it with my own eyes later today when I arrive in Orlando and drive down to Miami this weekend.

It is more than just a rain storm. 30" of rain in less than 2 days is a flood.

We fared better closer to Orlando but we have still had around a foot of rain in the past 2-3 days and it it still raining.

Our entrance to our neighborhood is completely flooded. The water is up over the sidewalks about 4". The opened up a dirt entrance/exit at the back so I am going to try that way out in a few minutes.

school has only been in session for a week. and the first friday we have is cancelled

we went to tallahassee to help my sis move into her dorm @ FSU and all it did was moderate rain and 20 mph winds ALL DAY NONSTOP. i didnt mind, it was just a nuisance cause everything was wet and the elevators stunk and slippery stairs and such. after walking around the FSU campus twice in the cold rain, i dont think ill do that again without being in my truck! but the campus cafe is great!

rain is still blwoing hard. ive got to open tomorrow at work, i hope it stays as it is now cause no one wants fast food with this kind of weather. suprisingly, my fire scanner hasnt squawked a pep. i was sure to hear a few calls get called out.

but on the highway we were doing about 65 going westbound on I-10 when theres a flatbed in the left lane passing us. he immediately hits his brakes and yellow lights. we are wondering whats going on when a semi and a few cars in front of us light up their brakes. we slow to a crawl and the semi in front of us goes into the left lane and off the road and when his trailer moves we see this 100+ yr old oak tree smaked down blocking BOTH lanes of traffic. obviously the guy in the flatbed heard the semi call it out on the CB. had i been in my truck i wouldve popped some flares and begin traffic control so no one slammed into it until the proper authorities came and gave back-up, but my dad was driving his car and he wanted to get to talla. so he just went around it and drove on. i hope no one slammed into it.

******* this tropical storm. Barely even worth the name of a trop. storm, but it managed to rain enough to keep me from working this week (which blows, I need the money bad). Worse, my truck has been on blocks the last week getting re-geared, so I haven't been able to go anywhere either. I've been going nuts the last few days doing absolutely nothing.
