So...whats so great about McCain?
McCain would appoint conservative judges.
McCain is a no-kidding war hero. I couldn't do what he did.
McCain is generally pretty good on spending. McCain does not support earmarks.
While I disagree with McCain on lots of issues, he is generally closer to my personal beliefs than Obama. They both suck on campaign finance and immigration.
I trust McCain on foreign policy. McCain was one of the first to call for more troops in Iraq.
McCain is a former military man married to a hot wife that owns a beer distributorship! What more do you need to know?

Truth is there is nothing great about either canidate! McCain is just the lesser of the two evils!...............If McCain picks Mitt Romney as his Vice Pres, he has my guaranteed vote cause either one is gonna be a 1 term president! Heck McCain will be lucky to get through one term, then my real pick Romney will be a Ringer!...........
Alright...finally getting a few reasonably sensible responses. Thanks and keep it coming. Like I say...I like a little in both of them and dislike as well. I will share with you my main issues, although hardly any of you will really understand or relate. The most important thing in my life are my 2 boys. They are both special needs kids. Our oldest is severely disabled. When he was born back in 94' there was lots of assistance and aid for people in our situtation which made our lives much easier. Unfortunately due to the severity of his condition he had to eventually be placed in a 24 hr care facility. With him, we dont need as many of those services now since he is under MedicAid. However, about 4 years ago the Republicans were making cuts to Medicaid which would basicly shut down private facilities like this. This battle still wages and scares me to death of what could come.
In 02' our youngest was born with a very rare chromosome disorder. When we went to get assistance to help with his needs, it was almost a joke. Many of those services we had used with our oldest son were virtually gone and what was left has huge waiting lists. Thankfully his condition is not real severe and he is actually doing very well in life. However he needs much speech and physical therapy but there arent many therapists here due to department funding cuts that have been put in place. He gets some therapy but nowhere near the amount that he needs.
Im sure like me most of you fathers out there would want to do all you can for your kids, especially when they cant do much for themselves. Most of these cuts have came to help pay for this ongoing war. While I am by no means an Obama fan, it really scares me to put another Republican in office after what the lasts 8 years has done for my boys. I dont really have too much against McCain. I know that a Dem in office may not make my personal matter any better but when you are in my shoes and you have seen what a Rep has done in the last 8 years, you really have a big decision to make. In now way am I trying to flame Republicans here, its just the facts.
I know the whole oil issue is most peoples beef on here, and it is a very important issue, but this is whats very important to me and my family. Hopefully this makes sense and you guys can understand my concerns.
Thanks for listening.

First, let me say that I am very sorry for the special needs your family has and the frustrations you must go through to provide for them. It hard to imagine what you must deal with as a parent, but I really don't think the war we are in is resulting in these program cutbacks. I think it is more the pressure being applied to reduce welfare programs in general. There are always some good people with real needs that suffer when any type of change is instituted and I feel you are one of these victims. We have schools and businesses looking at 4 day weeks, in an effort to deal with the current economy which is largely broght on by the oil situation.
As far as the Obama/McCain choice, I'm one of those that feel the country loses with either one, but stands to lose less with McCain. There was just not much in the way of a decent candidate in either party, as far as my politics go.

Sean46,
Even though I have no idea what you must go through on a regular day, please understand this. Obama will not drill for oil, causing everything that oil helps produce, like about 75% of medical supplies, much more expensive. No one realizes how mush crude oil is in each and everyone of our lives. While healthcare will not be directly billed to you, believe me, when the costs of your healthcare start to increase, so will your taxes. Bush askes for 90 billion in war funding. Obama mama wont be any differet, he will just be asking for 150 billion in healthcare funding.
McCain will drill, and give us cheap oil, while we find better more efficient energy supplies. We will win the war in Iraq, and Afganistan. Not just cut and run like a coward.
Mccain has been in congress for more than 20 years! He has the expierience to lead a world power. Obama was a US senator for 163 days before he announced that he was launching an exploritory commitee into running for President. He was a senator for a little over 5 months before he decided that he had enough experience to run the most powerful country in the free world. McCain spent more time in captivity in Hanoi!
While McCain might not be the perfect candidate he is far more qualified than Obama. Obama on the other hand is probably the best candidate for you personally, but he is not the best candidate for this country.

You sir are an embarrassment to this Nation and your parents.
History bores you? Wow, you are really cool saying things like that.
Your comments are ignorant and disrespectful to any American especially those that have and are serving in the military.
Although I am a Republican I am carefully watching this election campaign closely, keeping my options open. If you think somebody won't win an election because of their name, you really need to look at some poll numbers.
I imagine you are some 18 y/o kid running around Texas without a care in the world. I weep for the future.

Thanks for calling me cool

i am not not voting for Obama because of his name, theres many more reasons than that, i just feel like the name turns alot of americans off.
IMO theres lots of people who make judgements on the first things they see or hear about a person, ex. obamas name, and dont really pay attention to the details.
i know that in the town i moved to awhile back the bloodlines run a little close sometimes...if you know what i mean. and i can almost guarantee that every redneck over here wont vote obama
I watched the Saddleback Church Civil Forum on the Presidency hosted by Rick Warren and I am reluctant to say that McCain mildly impressed me. His quick answers showed that he is passionate about what he believes in. Obama was his "normal" captivating self, but McCain really drew me in with his stories on his past being a POW to prove his point. Go figure. They both had important suggestions on various issues, some which never seemed too far apart from the two. Advantage: McCain.
By the way, why is it that some people are pissed about having a presidential discussion in a church forum? It was one of the most informative political programs I've seen this election year. IMO. - Og

I'm finally warming up to McCain after the Saddleback church discussion.
He impressed me with his character and his core beliefs.
He is much more pro-Capitalism and pro national defense than his opponent. Cheaper energy and reduced dependence on foreign oil are HUGE issues for our economy, and McCain wins that battle hands down.
Of course I vehemently disagree with McCain on many issues. I used to feel he was the lesser of two evils, but after Saddleback I like him a little more.
OTOH, Obama is a smooth talking empty suit filled with Socialist leanings. Don't care about his color, but I do not want him to be president.

Are you calling me stupid because I am concerned about my kids and my ability to give them what they need? You have no idea what its like to walk in my shoes everyday. I have NOT made a decision yet anyway FYI. Not sure of your age but I am only looking for adult comments here. Thank you to the ones who have provided them.

Sean I would HATE to be in your sitiuation w/ your two boys. I really feel for you and Im glad you had the courage to tell us about your stiuation. Im not too political myself and I dont really care for either canidate but some of the things said about McCain really opened my eyes. IMO Obama is NOT ready to lead yet he is a JUNIOR senator, I could care less bout the color of a mans skin, Both have their good points and bad points but if I had to vote right now it would be for McCain. The only way this country is going to get back on track is if we can create jobs here instead of shipping them overseas, stop relying on forgin oil and conceider the possibility of cleaner alternative fuels{I'm all for a fuel that burns clean and is cheap as long as it produces the same power or more power than gasoline} end the war in Iraq safely, effectively instead of having to do an all out withdrawl. That would just cause more problems in the long run. I hope this response is allong the lines that your looking for.

Thanks for your compassion and sincere post Wookie. You are right on track with the kind of responses I was hoping to get. You make very valid points worth considering, for me and anyone who may be lurking.
My heart goes out to you and your family. I just wanted to tell you to not let this guy get you worked up. He's an idiot. He's already proven that on an earlier thread today.
I won't speak on this subject one way or the other, as I don't generally post in religious or political threads on this forum. Just wanted to let you know that I wish you and you're family the best, regardless of who our next President is.
