Portable audio devices...(ipod, zune, etc...)
Crazed...if I end up with the iPod, I will be using Apple Lossless files since, to my understanding, this is the highest quality of file format you can use on the Ipod...? Supposedly CD quality.
Im not sure when I will get something...might be in a few days, might be in a couple months. If it is later, I will have to take a look back at the Zune to see if they have a setup like the Ipod, thanks for that info Balog.

ipod format? Gimme a break. It's just MP3s. Windows media player sucks if it tells you some **** like that.
Here is the cable Ive been talking about the whole time, made by PIE.
Exactley what I need, black in color instead of the usual Apple white so it will match the interior of the truck better.

Either that, or I found a place that sells actual Ipod dock connectors with no wire coming out of them. 4 bucks for one of those, a soldering iron, pin layout, and a couple beers and I could save some cash, maybe make it a little more stealth looking, and of course just say that I made that MFin cable that you dont even see right there

You should get a ZUNE. I have owned a lot of Ipods, i even had the 160 gig (lost it in a cab ride...
) anyways, i decided to go with the Zune this time and im glad i did. The zune is a little easier to navigate i think, and my 30 gig lasts about 8-9 hours playing if i dont hit any buttons, aka make the screen come on. I also have the 80 gig zune and it kicks **** too. Doesnt live as long as the 30, only about 7 hours if i dont push buttons. But if you are planning on using it for the road, i think the zune is a better choice. Easier to navigate while driving and a bigger screen to see WTH you are doing.

I have a STILETTO which is a portable SIRIUS Satelite player/MP3 Player with Docking Cradle in 2 of my cars. There current model is the STILETTO 2 It will record up to 10 hours of Sirius Content, so If you hear a song or program you like, just hit the record button and it automaticlly records the song to your library. Plus you can Pause or rewind live content. (Works similar to a Tivo or DVR) In addition it has a micro SD slot to hold however many MP3's you can fit on a card. The best part is they have a hardwire kit for power and audio that plugs right into the 16 pin CD changer connection on the Stock Ford Headunit. This unit is a little pricey $279 for the unit, (Or u can try to find last years model a lot cheaper, the STILLETTO 100 that holds 100 hours of recorded content or MP3's but has no SD Slot) $50.00 for the car kit (includes Docking Cradle, Cigarette Lighter Adapter, antenna and remote control) $30.00 for a really nice mounting braket (or u can just suction cup it to your windsheild) and $85.00 for the hardwire kit (should you want to go this route.) Plus the Sirius $15.00 Activation fee and $12.99 a month service. If you dont want to hardwire the unit right away you can use the cigarette lighter adapter and the docking cradle will take a Aux Cable or has a FM Modulator built in. When I get a chance I will take a few pix of my setup and post them. If you are interested in going this route the best place to go is www.tssradio.com and if you have any questions about it, please feel free to ask. Whichever unit you choose just make sure you get the right car kit, because the cradles are different for the Stiletto 100 and the Stiletto 2
the only music i have on my computer that is mp3 format it stuff that has been downloaded. which most of mine isnt its all in wma and it was just easier to put it on my zune than it was on my ipod.
Ok, Ipod guys that but music off of iTunes, answer me this...
I was looking on iTunes, and the iTunes site, and all I see mentioned is buying .AAC files for 99 cents. Are AAC. files the only available option for download from iTunes, or do they give the option to download music in AppleLossless? If so, does it cost more than the 99 cents?
I will be royally pizzed if I want to download a song from iTunes and I cant get in in AppleLossless format.

I have an ipod 30gig video, I absolutely hate it. The little button in the center stays depressed now and I have only had it a year and a half, the button doesn't get pushed much because it stays hooked up to my pioneer head unit. It sometimes just freezes in mid song and I have to do a hard restart, and I don't like the circle to scroll feature. When I buy a new one it will be a zune. I hate Itunes with a passion, it is way restrictive and if something were to happen to my music, you can't take the music off the Ipod back to the computer.
to all guys thinkin bout gettin a zune, i went through 4 of them. the battery was absolute crap, and when it started locking up, that was even better. It would freeze and you would try to hard-boot it and it would do nothing, eventually when you got it rebooted the battery was done.
the ORIGINAL zune syncing software ill even admit was great, but when they came out with the update i was lost, it sucks and makes no sense.
i dont buy music off of itunes so i dunno bartak.

You know, you can just change the settings in WMP, so that the output is mp3... takes like 3 clicks
Much (certainly not all) of what I had was Rap and Hip Hop that I purposely didn't add to it because I don't want my 4 year old asking "Daddy, what did they say" every 5 minutes.
Well I purposely left off all the garbage that passes for music to your average tone deaf college student (No offense).

iTunes will convert the /wma file sautomatically when you import the folder.

I don't know for sure, about either the normal iTunes stuff, or the itunes plus selections.. I can tell you that there is no option for selecting the type of download, at least as far as I can tell.
I have the black 30GB Zune and I love it. All my friends have the iPod and I love the larger size and larger screen. As soon as I got it, all my friends put their iPod classics in their rooms to collect dust and went out and got Zunes. We'd sit in the school parking lot sending songs to eachother. You can also put games on the Zune. I have pong and some others. Granted I dont play games when I'm driving, but on a flight its awesome to play a round of asteriods with AC/DC's "Highway to Hell" blasting
The FM radio is awesome, clear reception from 30+ miles from the stations base. Some instances I get better reception than my trucks stock anntenna. BTW, the iPod does NOT have the radio. The Zune screen is almost impossible to scratch! Theres not one on mine and I've dropped it several times on the concrete face-flat. My sisters iPod has so many scratches its hard to see through the screen and she just bought it 2 months ago. The Zune software is so easy to listen to music. The second my download is finished it updates and shows it on the top of the list. One click sends it through the USB into the Zune. Can do what iTunes does but is more user-friendly and less hard-hitting on the RAM and CPU. I bring my Zune in my truck with me and cant live without it. Earphones that come with it also have a clearer center range than the iPods. I have listened to the iPod's earbuds and the Zunes and theres a CLEAR difference. The only downside to it is the lack of hardware at local shops. I get all my carrying cases and car chargers on line for a lot cheaper. Also love the video. The larger screen is a plus. I have several movies on my Zune that I will watch when I go on a trip. Not very economical, but its fun to do. Hooking up to a aux speaker allows people to watch in too. I HIGHLY recommend getting a Zune.
JBMX, you obviously had one of the 1997-98 4.2L's when it comes to the Zunes. I heard a lot about those older ones and the problems they had. Get a new(er) one and you wont be having any of those problems now. Those issues are common as with any other product. First off the assy line are ALWAYS going to have problems. Give it a year or so to work them out and they will work flawlessly.
