LMK: So you like the XTi? I am 99% sure thats what I am going to get. I imagine you have the 18-55 lens that comes with the kit. Which lens are you planning on upgrading to? I was liking the 70-300 but its kind of bulky, and so is the price tag..ha ha, maybe if I could find a used one....
I hope to buy my XTi in a couple of weeks. Any advice on what to get with it? I have nothing to start with, so other than a bag and a memory card I wasnt sure what else to get.
On that note, which size card do you have and how many pics does it hold in RAW?
Also, do you have a polarizer? I was told with a digital DSLR this is pretty much the only filter you need to buy.
Sorry for so many questions...

Questions are fine.
The lens i have now is the 18-55 like you said. I was looking at upgrading to the 75-300. B&H has some used ones for $119. That is not bad at all. New from them it is $159. Still very reasonable for a decent zoom lens! I also thought about the 28-135. I am still reading and undecided on what my next lens will be.
I have 2 4GB memory cards which is plenty i think. I have almost 200 pictures on it right now with plenty of room. I also have a "speed reader" which is a USB cord with a plug on the end of it and you plug the memory card into that instead of hooking the camera direct to the computer. I do not have any filters yet, but i plan on playing with a few in the future.
Also get a good tri-pod and possibly a mono pod.
How bout everyone who posts pictures post what lens they are using.

$159 for a 70-300mm? I dont think you are looking at Canon lenses. I have done a good amount of research and found no matter what camera you have, if you are going to buy a lens, buy a good one, it makes all the difference in the world. So, I am staying away from Tamron and the "generics" and staying with Canon brand lenses. The Canon 70-300 with IS goes for about $549 new....yeah, I think I will hold off on that for a bit.
About the cards. Do you have 200 pictures on just ONE of the 4 gig cards? Also, are those 200 pics in RAW format or JPEG?
I will be purchasing a tripod, prolly not while I am at B&H as I will cramped on space and getting stuff on a plane without checking baggage. I havent read anything good about mono-pods. I think with a lens with Image Stabilization and the XTi and 1/2 way decent tripod will suit me fine.
B&H is where its at! I am actually going to the store to buy my camera in a couple weeks. I was going to order it online and saw they were in NYC. I was planning on visiting my sister for a few days so I postponed ordering it and will go to the store, I am way excited!
