Anyone feed their dogs IAMS pet food?
whatever if you want to feed your dog garbage then go right ahead but you certaintly aren't doing the dog any favours, nor yourself.
feeding a higher quality food means you feed less and the dog poops less
but do what ya want

do not want to scare you but i heard this brand was really bad. i used to feed it to my dog when i first arrived in the states years ago and for some reason my dog kept itching himself all over and his skin was acting up, it turned out it was something to do with that food brand, something about what they put into it. hence why i changed to purina an 6 weeks later his skin was better and no more itching. but if your dog is doing great on it, good for him, and if he enjoys the food even better for him

Here's a list of Bad foods for dogs.
I worked at a super high end dog kennel/training facility (spoiled rich dogs, "actor" dogs, Police K-9's etc). There, we used whats called a "Bogie Ball" (Bog-E ball). It would cause the dogs to get the chits for a little while (this was actually cleaning out the digestive system, helping the dogs in the long run). After a couple days of this, the dog would come back, more lively and good looking then ever. A Better looking, easier to work with coat. Better shedding intervals (dogs aren't suppose to shed year round, like many do) and a better, more lively attitude. BTW I worked there full time for over 3 years, still work there part time going on my 6th year.
The arguement "my dog has eaten xxx for 10 years and is fine" is not only not valid, but ignorant. Did you allow your dog onto a proper diet, note all his behavior ticks and what not, note his coat, do blood work, etc etc etc and then compare to the crap food vs. their actual diet ? No ? Didn't think so. Your dog may live a long life, and you may treat them GREAT, but why not feed them right too ? If you love them, its really not a big task. They are fellow family members, treat em like it. This arguement reminds me of the tobacco company, despite the large amount of people getting cancer because of the cig, the companies still found a way to argue that they know someone who smoked for X amount of years and is fine, therefore no relation. Give me a break.
There are other solutions, and you don't have to go with the Bogie ball. Another good practice, like BigMan has said, is feed them what you eat ! Not to the extreme Bigman took it (they don't need cereal) but feed them meat that is FDA approved. Feed them veggies (research what your dog needs 1st) feed them a minimal amount of grains. Lots of water, etc etc etc (research for your specific dog, each is different depending on breed and lifestyle). You do know, that in things such as Iams, or any other shelf food, they use animals that cannot meet FDA standards for humans. Things like tumors in the animal, scabs, blood clots, puss, and a list of other horribly disturbing things are allowed in our dog food. Dog food does not need to be FDA approved, so it can literally contain damn near anything we can't/won't eat.
Ellen Degeneres (sp???) has recently released a new line of kibble type food, but using ONLY FDA approved products (another good start).
This is all especially true for younger dogs. The older they get, the more "used to it" their body gets. The benefits wont be as drastic, but anything helps !

I'm guessing that was for me? I've heard from my dad that his grandparents dogs (farm dogs) only got table scraps and they lived and worked fine for a normal life. If there were no scraps the dogs got 2 pieces of bread with bacon grease on them....... I'm not saying it's wrong, but different species of animals will have different nutritional needs. The needs could be really freaking close or miles apart, but they are still different.
all I know is I spent a fortune on dry food going thru just about every "perfect food" at petsmart including several on that list and no food is good if the dog wont eat it my dog likes olroy he eats it and I limit his intake of people food he gets one rawhide chewey a day and a rib bone once a week with the occasional milk bone or chicken treat and he is a happy loving non stinky mutt
half pug half standard schnauzer

his name is flipper and the biggest thing as far as his health goes is it has gotten exponentially better since he has started going for 1 mile walks with 1-2 times a day
oh almost forgot whenever I make spaghetti sauce or chili this mutt will sit on top of my feet until I feed him some raw garlic he loves it and cant get enough of it

Flipper looks like a character! I take Maggie for a short morning walk before breakfast and a long walk at night. Usually about 2 1/2 miles. Good for the dog and us too. In the winter, when it is really cold, we may take 3 walks since she doesn't get as much excercise chasing critters.

I was simply offering up other ways to "safely" feed your dog. Other ideas. IMO, there is little to no safe bagged dog food. The stuff they contain is just horrible, heck, my Pitbull wont even eat it. No dry food, no wet food (tried the dry food when camping. Its much easier to haul around, but the dog doesn't eat it). Just doesn't touch dog food, but loves those bogie ***** !! (along with Chicken necks).
In all reality, as long as you love your dog, play with your dog, exercise your dog, and give affection and attention to your dog, the dog will most likely grow up to be a wonderful old pup ! Thats what really matters, when it comes down to it. Even if you feed em Filet mignon, but don't love em, they wont be happy !

Yes your VERY right ! Sorry, the chicken necks I use are de-boned by the Bogie Ball people. Shoulda been more clear. I tried doing cow bones, but the pit can splinter and chew them up like they are a cookie ! So, he gets ZERO bones. (don't worry, he has PLENTY of alternatives to choose from. )
I feed my guys
