Thunderfobia
When I was younger, we had a Great Dane/Bull mastiff mix. HUGE dog.
He was scared of thunder and lightning and would "uproot" the bed to get under it. If the bed failed, he'd be under tables and things too.
The vet prescribed some medication to sedate him during or right before storms. It was like doggy valium. It wasn't 100% effective at first (and never really was).
After a couple of years of taking the medication during storms, he finally stopped running and "almost" ignored the storms.
The medication made him too lazy to run and I guess he learned that even when he didnt runa way, he was still "ok".
It may be worth a shot.
