T. Boone Pickens
He's planning on getting even richer by this scheme.
Wind power is not the solution, but it is a "free" renewable resource. As is Solar energy too.
I'm just glad to see somebody actually standing up and saying "Let's DO this!" instead of "Somthing should be done (while I sit on my fat, government ****)"
I don't know what needs to be done, but it's dumb to put so much burder on the shoulders of "oil" itself. The United states needs somthing else.

I'm all for the wind energy process and using solar. My questions is how do we make the hundreds of thousands of cars currently on the road in the US run on natural gas? Automakers are offering "flex fuel" with gasoline and e-85 now we are trying to throw natural gas into the mix? I'm not saying I dislike the "plan" but that is the issue as I see it.
Same thing on my farm in north central kansas. The only time the wind is blowing less than 10mph, is when there is a storm coming.
E85 is a crock... E100 would be OK though if all the bugs and kinks were hammered out and made it more user friendly.
T. Boone Pickens is despised in West Texas because he is trying to gain access to the Ogallala aquifer and sell the water downstate. The farmers up here depend on the aquifer to irrigate the crops. I've lived here for 33 years, and last I checked, it doesn't rain much around here. Also, last I checked, Schlitterbahn doesn't ever seem to run dry. It's all about the money.
I "would" give him credit for his "plan", but here is his plan. Build a bunch of turbines up here, where the wind never stops blowing and generate lots of power. Sounds good so far. To deliver that power, he needs to build transmission lines. Well, might as well build a water pipeline at the same time, on the same ground... and voila! T. Boone Pickens makes vast sums of money. Lots of electricity is introduced to the grid. The Texas Panhandle goes dry. Wheat fields shrivel, raising the price of grain. Cattle ranchers will have to pay triple for their feed, and you will pay $55 for a ribeye steak.
And gasoline will still be over $4/gallon.

Thanks for the education. I didn't know that is what he was talking about.

There are wind farms here, a bunch of them if i recall right. and they are very unsightly... Plus I dont think many people get the shear size of these generators/turbines. They are huge in person. Like everyone said tho, its not really tryin to reduce the dependency on oil at all... More like a reduced dependency on coal??
When im in lubbock sometimes the wind blows so hard and the dust is so thick you cant see buildings and it looks like something straight out of the middle east. Its the exact same in amarillo, except the dust is brown not red....
He may have not hit the nail on the head but at least he's swinging a hammer.
I have another solution that fixes more than just one problem...
Put electric generators on stationary bikes, put all the illegal aliens, all the convicts in our prisons, all the moochers on welfare and the hippie liberal moron politicians that want to keep them on it on the bikes. Switch em out every 4 hours for fresh legs. When they croak over from exhaustion, cremate them and use the heat from that to boil water to turn steam generators. The best part of the plan is at the rate the illegal aliens are crossing the border, the rate the prison population is growing, the rate the welfare people are squeezing out puppies, and the rate we keep electing morons to office, we have an endless renewable energy source. It's a win/win/win/win/win situation.

There's this new thing called "humor", you might have heard of it. You form these things called "jokes" by bunching together outrageous ideas or taking tragedies that have had enough time pass and word them in a way that would envoke laughter.
