My Friend Played in 2008 WSOP
My Friend Played in 2008 WSOP
My good pal Romeo won a seat to play in the 2008 World Series of Poker on PokerStars.
He had the choice of just keeping the 10k entry fee money + 2k expense money, but he decided to play in the event as it was a lifelong dream of his anyway.
He survived day one (which was pretty good) but on day 2 Romeo shoved "all-in" with his AK suited on the flop, and the board showed
A-7-2
His opponent called him with K-K, and spiked a K on the turn, game over.
~ He got 'one outed'.
In any case, he had a hell of a good time and met some interesting people.
The first photo requires no introduction:

He said Chuck was one of the coolest and nicest guys he's ever met.
The next photo is of him & Daniel Negraneu (if you're not into poker, that name won't mean much

and finally, the last pic is Rome and Bill Chen (a pretty big name in poker.
Funny, because I played backgammon against Bill in Vegas in 2000.
When Bill asked me to play him a few games for cash, I thought I won the frikkin lottery.
To look at him, the guy looks like the absent minded twit who slept in his suit.
I was secretly rubbing my hands together as our session started.
Bill ended up winning $10 from me.
Yes, not much, but I'm a WC player, and Bill told me how he just learned the game 2 weeks ago.
If you read his wikipedia specs, you'll understand:

Anyway, it was kind of cool hearing about my friends adventure.
One year I will play in it as well, just to say "I did it"

My high school teacher played a good week + on Jeopardy. The principal called the whole school into the auditorium so we could watch it when it aired. Won a good amount of $$$.
I always wanted to get on price is right, that looks like fun!
the guy that it the current chip leader, final table, lives about 10 miles from me. if he gets knocked out first he still gets approx 900k. i dont think that there is a house in that town worth over 120k. i think he would be the biggest thing to happen to that town of 1000 people.
Yeah, I think the lowest payout is 900k, and the winner gets 9M.
I bought a small % of my friend's interest, so I was really rooting for him because of selfish reasons, lol
I think the 3rd chip leader is from about 60 miles from me, don't know his name, but he's from Perth, Ontario.
It would be a rush making the final table.
They resume play sometime in November (I think)
The ESPN guys will be following them around til then doing a little documentary of their life.
It should be cool to watch.

Habibi, I played in event #2 at the first of June. I feel bad for your buddy. Bad beats are part of poker. You cannot win without putting a couple of bad beats on someone.

$1,500 event?
Did you pay it yourself, or win a seat somewhere?
Either way it must've been a rush.
How did you end up?
I've played in a few big backgammon tournaments.
I won a 500 Pound entry event in London.
After the tourney we played a very long "50 pounds per point' money session and I cleaned up.
All I remember about clearing customs is how nervous I was sneaking 40 grand back home (anything over 10 you have to declare)
yeah ok, lol
Are you going next year? I'd love to play in a Omaha 8 event limit (if they have one of those)
So I guess if we hooked up there, we couldnt visit any Vegas titty bars because of your proper Christian lifesytyle and all that eh?

Are we allowed to say titty bars here or is that a no-no?
My friends and I used to play poker every week at a local bar out in the country.
usually about 100-120 people play... Out of 5 of us that usually went, we'd almost always get into the top 10..... almost. By that I mean, we ALL would usually end up in top 10.
I like to play poker, just don't have much time to do it anymore.
