Having used car checked by mechanic....

Hmm.. If I was a crooked mechanic and someone brought me a crappy car.. I would say sure.. its a good deal. They buy it.. 2 months later stuff goes wrong that I knew would, and they bring to me to have it fixed.

Ever think of that?

Or they would think you are a terrible mechanic because they think you didn't find any of the problems. Then they tell everyone they know that is looking for a mechanic that you are terrible, and you lose more business.

EXACTLY!!!

Well said, friend.

I ran a successful auto repair business for 16 years before I had to retire for medical reasons. Anyone stupid enough to try something like this yahoo suggested wouldn't last 6 months. You want to make sure your mechanic is honest? Come back a year later, and if he's still there and still busy, you're good to go.

no lol... I just trying to figure out why the mechanic my brother took his toyota corolla to didnt find half the problems he is having now. Just throwing out a hypothetical.

He took to the guy and the guy said it was in really good condition 5000 miles ago, now he is looking at a tranny rebuild and he is having missfire problems and a knock on acceleration. it has like 83,000 miles on it.

I've never had good luck with mechanics and think they are more crooked than car salesmen

Not my guy, he's "retired", doesn't need the money, and bored.
