rice exhaust
This isnt true. I have a 1.8L vehicle and it sounds nice. The tone is nice and deep. Really throaty sounding. Plus the gas mileage is awesome. Now a Honda will give you that ricey sound but mine is not like that at all. But I also live in California and gas is so expensive.

I lived in Europe for a while, and they got some nice sounding 4-bangers over there.
My buddies Lotus Elise uses a Toyota 4-banger, but it sounds very good and throaty, not ricey at all. Sounds like a old-school Euro sportscar, like a old Aston Martin or something, but not crappy or tiny at all.

try magnaflow or borla. borla makes a nice kit for the scion tc that sounds pretty good. not ricey at all. its the kids that put the pep boy specials on their car that give it a bad name. my friend has an srt4 with a real nice exhuast and it sounds awesome.
check greddy...ive heard some deeper ones from them but still coming straight from the rice fields.....and maybe an intake...ive heard intakes put on form stock and the difference it makes in sound is alot....but still youre basically screwed for the whole throatier thing....unless youre talking about like a prepubesent 9 year olds' throat
