I'll post it again for you. In another thread you are completely against kids having to learn about Christianity in public schools. However now you are for kids being forced to learn Spanish. It's the same theory except you've completely changed your view point. And I know why, it doesn't fit your mindset. Talk about being closed minded and naive. Grow up.
Thump he is just doing exactly what Obama does when he gets caught flip flopping......"Um ignore it and it will go away ......PLEASE?!?!?"

Nuclearthreat, honestly, how many languages do you speak? No, the two years of state mandated foreign language in high school don't count. Because I speak spanish, but for the sole purpose of telling these pieces of dung that they are trash and have no honer in their own stinking language.

Wasn't it BUSH that wanted to build a fence along the entire border but somehow it was stopped??? I believe that was in the first four years of service. Sounds like someone intervened about mid 8 year term...

cough...Liberals/Democrats..cough..cough

Hasn't the "Bush Administration" increased border control. The reason they are having a hard time is because the immigrants had an eight year running start before he(bush took office).

Don't you mean an 8 year swimming start?

The border states enjoy the cheap labor that comes across the border everyday or they would have tougher laws. Check out Missouri is doing.

Why Spanish and not French? Don't the Canadians have a say?

BTW.. Spanish wasn't the native language of the Aztecs and Incas.

Have you ever been in a business meeting with 4 different languages (Chinese, Japanese, English and German) present? I have, and its next to impossible, the meeting takes 4x longer waiting on translations and a lot is lost in the translation. Also note there wasn't any Spanish present, could be they aren't big players in technology.. Oh but I want my kids wasting their time learning to speak the language of the yard man.

It seems to me that our leadership should be looking for ways to streamline and make our society more efficient rather than complicating it with another language. Learning another language is busy work. Rather than having Americans wasting time on languages why not work on energy conservation and resource management?

Here's and idea.. Obama should require half the states mandate driving on the left side of the road... like they do in Europe. After all there is more than one traffic standard in the world and we should know the other so Europeans won't think we're spoiled.

As much as it hurts to admit, I sort of.... almost.... kind of actually agree with B. Hussein Obama on this issue. I don't think they should be forced to take Spanish in school, but they should be forced to take a foreign language.

For the record, I'm all for making English the official language, and getting people here to actually learn it. But on the other hand, I know our school system is in shambles. Our kids are getting dumber by the day, and our government is to blame. Privatize the school system, give people vouchers so they can pick which schools their kids go to. We know capitalism works, if you still have questions about it ask the Soviets, or maybe the Cubans exactly how well it works. Make the teachers and faculty accountable, and the only real way to do it is to basically make a free market for education.

Don't think I'm picking on the teachers out there, I'm all for paying them comparable wages to industry. But unless they start working all year, they only get 3/4.

I have been wanting to learn Spanish so that when I am at Home Depot and a crew of them are wandering through the aisles rattling back and forth too each other in spanish I will know what they are talking about. Plus if they should try yo ask me for help it would give me much deeper enjoyment if I catually could help them but then choose not too.

The thing that really gets me was his comment that its embarrassing to know that when Americans visit Europe they can't speak anything other than English...

So he suggest we should learn Spanish... WTF ??? How many of the 250 + million Americans will ever travel to Europe, maybe < .1%. Those that do visit can now impress the Europeans with Spanish.. give me a break. Who the hell goes to Spain on vacation? How many Americans living north of the border by at least two states will ever speak to a Mexican?
Mexicans shouldn't be treated any different than my ancestor were when they migrated here speaking German.

Here's another dumb idea, why not make everyone learn to play a musical instrument... then we could be the envy of the world..

Our society is getting dumber because we yield to dumbing it down to the lowest common denominator. Not everyone is guaranteed a diploma. If people were allowed to really settle into careers based on their true skills/aptitude we wouldn't need immigrant labor.
