(Psychology, environmental sciences, microbiological sciences, geological sciences, etc...)

To question the upper hierarchy that pollute the students mind with all of their gobbly gook nonsensical opinions gets you lynched in the media and black balled on the Dean's list. Add to that we have allowed these idiots to dumb down the curriculum so that the students don't feel inferior. Aye chihuahua.

No wonder that foreign educational (Japan, China, Switzerland, etc...) systems are kicking the crap out of us. They actually teach their students by educating them without lowering the bar to make them feel better about themselves.
I don't know about that---if their colleges are so darn good, why are they coming to school--colleges and universities---over here? My daughter just graduated from college, and I would venture to say that at least 5% of her graduating class were international students.

As for other countries, the stress placed on kids is tremendous. I am not saying that some stress isn't a good thing; but check the suicide rates of Asian school-aged kids vs. other areas. Plus---in certain countries, at a certain age, placement tests are given to determine whether or not you can choose a certain career path---not quite true in the US of A, where certain students, through hard work and dedication, can beat the odds.

I'm just proud enough to say that I've worked hard to get my children the chance for a higher education. I do believe that the education begins at home. I didn't have a chance at a higher education, my determination has gotten my children more chances than I had.
My youngest is a HS senior next semester.4.0 his junior year. He took the ACT the first time about a month ago scored a 28. His first words were Dad I'll do better when I retake it. I also know he is not under to much pressure because that's not how We[current wife and I]opperate. I just don't think he took it seriously enough, because he had a 4.0.

I forgot to mention , those were AP classes

So what's your point? You make some type of assertion that the suicide rate is tied to their educational system, but what data or proof do you have for that?

I would also bet that the 5% international students you cite were at the top of the class too. In fact, tell me which college and I'll go get the stats for you.

What I said is their educational system was far superior to ours in the way they teach. What ends up happening is they come over here to our universities to learn about subjects based on facts and not opinions such as Mechanical/Electrical engineering, Mathematical/Computer Sciences, Medical and related sciences and then make MUCH MORE MONEY here because our economy is better in the technical markets. Take a look around you and notice the amount of Asian, Indian, Spanish, etc... people that are leading the field in many of our industries.

They come over here knowing how, what, why, and when to study and understand that hard work = better pay. Our kids here in the States are taught that if something is hard, people should dumb something down and make it easier so that they feel better about themselves. We don't want our poor kids to think that they are less capable then another, so we punish the hard workers by holding them back to the slower kids levels and make the overall classroom's average grade higher that way. No child left behind. Remember outcome based education?

Go talk to any major company's human resource department, and ask them which ethnic groups make the most money for their companies.

I'm a Patriot and would die for this country, but my head is not in the sand. We are raising a bunch of whining, lazy, illiterate pansies that think the world owes them a living. This country will fall from the inside.

He will do better if he takes it seriously. My daughter took the ACT the first time when she was 12 and scored 28 too. She decided she wanted to take it again at 15 and did the 31. I figure that when she gets serious about what she wants to do as far as college goes, she'll nail the 36.

OK, well, one of my former student was an exchange student in Germany---she said that vast majority of the classes in her school in Germany revolved around rote memorization. That's real learnin' for ya, isn't it.

You ask for stats---I will do the same. Show me the curriclum, courses of study, and the methods used in theses foreign countries---otherwise, I believe very little of what you say---and what I do believe is that you are basically espousing hearsay.

They come over here knowing how, what, why, and when to study and understand that hard work = better pay. Our kids here in the States are taught that if something is hard, people should dumb something down and make it easier so that they feel better about themselves.

I believe that this is again a generalization on your part. You asked me for stats---prove this and show me the proof...I feel that this, while a strong opinion on your part---is nothing more than that---an opinion.

Certaily there are students that do believe this--but the vast majority of the ones that I have worked with in the past 31 years know that it is the value of hard work that reigns supreme in moving ahead in this world. Again, I ask you for your credentials and your research in proving your above statement.

Manufacturing Engineer Degree (1 class from graduating)

I'm not a book smart person, but if you give me some time to study somthing that is interesting to me, I'll figure it out.

Since diapers, I have always taken everything I could apart and put it back together just because I was curious...... but what guy doesn't.

I like to think I'm an intelligent person... but I don't flaunt it.

And it would work when I put it back together or I would do it all over again.

I got a BS in Business Management of Information Systems from the University of Central Florida. Those were some of the best years of my life.

I'm 36, I have an AAS in Law Enforcement. 3.9 GPA, Phi Theta Kappa. I got a 31 on my ACT two year out of high school with NO studying. My belly button is an innie. My favorite song is "Wind beneath my wings" by Bette Midler. I like long walks on the beach, talking on the phone for hours, puppy dogs and people who smile. I don't like rainy Sundays, black jelly beans, and people who lie. And my number one hope is for world peace. Anything else?

Interesting thread. For me, HS Diploma and a BA in Telecommunication from Michigan State. No ambition or desire to go back to school, don't need it for my line of work.
