Mustang SVO 4 cylinder
Yeah, I personally dont know ONE woman around here who drives a Mustang, but a 68 Mustang (not a fastback, i believe it was a mach 1, not sure..) was my fathers first car. I know about 5 or 6 Mustang owners off the top of my head thats are pretty good friends an they are ALL guys, an only one of them is a 4.0L all others are GT's.
I would guesstimate the % of 05-08 Mustang drivers around here is about 65% women. There are a lot of women with 05-08 v6 Mustangs around here.I know of 3 women locally with 05-08 GTs but the # of v6s around here is incredible for a small area.
Most of the guys around here drive 4x4 trucks or they are into older chevy hotrods.
I'm waiting to win the lottery so I can get a Roush P51 or a Shelby GT 500.

Mustangs built for women? The Mustang was never built for a man or a woman, but it was definitely not built for women. The car was built to be relatively cheap, fast, and have great looks.
Hersh, I have to completely disagree. It might be that way in Texas but you can't just speak for the rest of the country. Here in Florida, I could count the first 10 Mustangs, more than likely 8/10 or even 9/10 would be men driving them, not women. I see way more women driving Ford Edges, Explorers, Expeditions, and F150s than Mustangs around here.

I agree, I see more women driving the vehicles you mentioned as well... Except for the F-150. From what I see here, I'd say 1/5 F-150's are being driven by women.
I can only go by what I see. Texas, and Dallas- one of the largest metro areas in the USA, would serve as a pretty good random sampling- with regard to the Mustang... (And the Camaro and Firebird when they were for sale- as well).

With the Mustang, I agree with you. Ladies love the little horsey. The F-bodies have always been too long in the hood for women drivers to feel comfortable in them. I think that's part of the reason they didn't sell well. I lot of guys didn't like it either. I see women driving the V-6 about as often as men; but, rarely see a woman driving a V-8 F-body. There are always exceptions to the rule of course. Same with 'Vettes. I see some women driving them, but not many.
I tried to find some stats, but could only find stats for convertible Ford sales, where 38% of Mustang convertible drivers were women, and the average age was 43. This was for the 2006 model year.
In the area of the parking lot that I park in, there are seven Mustangs I see on a daily basis. Of the seven, three are driven by men, and three by women. Of the seven, four are V-6's, 2 GT's (Both driven by women) and one GT-SC (Male driver). Three Gen-4's, and four Gen-5's.
I'm not saying the Mustang is a "chick car". I'm just saying that's who I see driving them the most. No, if I were concerned with what vehicle fits a "male image", I wouldn't have purchased a Ford Expedition or an Acura MDX, or a Ford Edge. All of which I see mostly driven by women.
Not many cars say "man" (I'd say 50% of the Hummers I see driven, have femal drivers), but a few cars on the market- do scream "Woman".
Volkswagen New Beetle, Rabbit, Golf- Mitsubishi Eclipse, Mercedes SLK, CLK, Miata (MX-5), PT Cruiser.

The original Mustangs had I6's and V8's. The 4 banger didn't come till 10 years later in the Mustang II, then the early Foxes.
