Savin Gas & Gettin Fit!

Well today since everything a within three miles of me, except work, which is 10 miles away, I bought a new Cypress/Giant 21 speed bike with a comfortable gel-seat,a bike rack that attatches into my trailer hitch, & a backpack,to carry my junk in, & oh yes, a Helmet to protect my bean!
I'm gonna start using the bike to commute to the Gym, & to work! The work commute I plan on packin the bike on the rack, & driving 5 miles, parkin the truck, & bike the rest of the way on a nearby bikepath that actually connects 5 towns & cities where I reside,& bike right into work!
I will be watchin the weather forcasts, as I will do this on rain free days! I wonder how much time it will take to recoup the $750.00 in gas savings to cover my expense today for the Bike & stuff?...............

Way to Go! I have been commuting to school since early April---

I do have two headlights, two taillights, and a rack pack and double panniers to carrier all of my stuff. I also put fenders on the bike, and I have ridden in the rain...no thunderstorms, though. I figure that I have saved almost $600 since I started---but I also ride around doing errands---to the hardware store for little stuff, etc.

That Giant Cypress is a nice bike---worth every bit of the $$ you put into it.

Here is my ride...I also use clipless pedals and SPD MT-41G shoes.

Took the panniers off for the summer--- a little bit dusty as I was riding on a crushed limestone trail.

Good job! I wish Tampa was bike friendly. I only ride on country roads where rednecks throw beer bottles at me. If i tried to ride to work, i would be a bloody spot on the sidewalk. It's great for your health to, so keep that in mind when you factor the "worth" factor.

Ride on, my man... ride on

If you can get clipless pedals and shoes--go for it---your pedalling will be much mor efficient---pulling with the hammies and pushing with the quads...takes a little practice though---

Yep! Love that place---since I teach, I can get down there on weekdays when it is deserted! Weekends are a different story, though. I have gone on a couple night rides down there sponsored by Century Cycle---lots of fun...and, of course, there is the Winking Lizard, as well..

Ah yes, the Winking Lizard. A good place to stop after your ride. If you ever get a chance, try a early a.m. ride. Very peaceful and refreshing. I go about once a week.

I live all the way past Strongsville---Columbia Station---but I do truck on over there at least once a week and begin about 7:30 Am for a good ride---I normally start at Rockside Road and go south...the other day I could only do about 23 miles, as the trails was closed down

Within five minutes you don't believe how close you actually are to civilization.

The folks there are a little "lefter" than they are here, mostly harmless but we do have a Manual150 equivilent.

I'm "2FarFromHome" over there.

That's cool. At one time I was riding from the beginning in the valley all the way to Rockside Rd. but that was a long time ago. Now I'm riding about 10-15 miles and that's about it.

Just make sure your cleats on your shoes have BOTH screws in tight so one doesn't come out during a long ride, thus allowing the entire shoe to pivot in the clip and not release causing you to fall straight over like a dumb ****.... uhhhh... or so I've heard this can happen. Yeah, that's it!!!

I check mine about once a week---I have "heard" the stories as well!

Adds another dimension to the phrase---"you have a screw loose!"
