My bow is old (10 years) but I shot many bows and ended up getting a Matthews Solo Cam and it is a great bow.

I have been shooting bows for 23 years and will be purchasing my first Mathews (switchback XT) in about 2 months. I fell in love with that bow the first time I ever slung an arrow out the XT.

Mathews switchback LD(Long Draw) I have a 33in draw length. Buy it, you won't regret spending the extra money.

Don't jack around with a crappy bow. If you like shooting a bow and already rifle hunt you will want a really good bow.

P.S. Rifle hunting will seem like an afterthought after you bow hunt a year or two.

It's way better than rifle hunting!!!!!!

I used to religously hunt with a rifle, but now I love to bow hunt more, even though I still hunt with a rifle my bow is definately my baby. I am probably the only one on here thats going to push PSE bows. Most people will say they are junk and for the most part they are. But with the introduction of the hyper cams in there x force model. I love it even with the short brace height it is a very easy shooting bow. Not trying to say its better then any of the others just trying to give you another option.

But either way I would get a quality set up out of the box. I originally bought an average $300 bow bc I was unsure of how much I would enjoy it. Well not even six months later I turned around and sold if for alot less then what I spent on it and got a good bow and have been much better ever since. But the most important part of it all is to make sure you get your draw length, and the correct draw weight. And form is far more important then the bow you buy. So good luck either way and welcome to the bow hunting club, you will love it!

After digging around and talking with a guy a work with, I am probably going for the Mathews Switchback LD. He has bow hunted for 37 years and said there is nothing better than a Mathews. I spoke to a guy whom happened to listen in on our conversation and said he has the Switchback model and has never seen a bow so quiet and dead on from the factory. Went out and shot a target at 35yds and hit it for his first shot with the bow.

So I have the greenlight from the wife, I will be taking the plunge after seeing how much money I am getting paid here in 4 days.

Mathews do not come straight from the factory with sights already installed so I don't see how the bow could be dead on straight out of the box.

And FWIW, the Mathews SB XT has a little better follow than the LD in the Mathews forum.

I also shoot a HC. I bought a cheap HC Extreme nearly 8 years ago then progressed to a 4-runner split limb two years later. It's no Mathews but it does what I need to do. Our bow season is just over 1 month long and the rest I can hunt with a rifle, so I couldn't justify a mathews. If I were to purchase a new bow, it would be a crossbow anyway. ALABAMA is great!
