guess the mpg thread (95 cavalier)

went to see my brother (outside of westchester pa), having a welcome back from Iraq party! was thinking of taking the bike but didn't really feel like doing that on the highways, so the wife suggested her car. i was on 98% highways with the cruise on set to 60mph. i even filled up the car before and after at the exact same station and pump even......remember this is a 95! let the games begin!

The 95's have a 2.2L i believe (correct me if im wrong)

I would guess...with the cruise on 60mph, you were getting about 38mpg?

If it got 60 mpg... I would not drive a crapalier. Just about the worst car built besides the vega or chevette. LOL I like my V-65 magna better than your v-max too. hehehe

My wife had a '97 Sunfire GT with the "big" 4 cylinder engine and it only got low-20's in day-to-day driving. I never checked the mileage on a long trip because when we owned the car gas was only $1.50 per gallon......

However, I do know the vehicle was built in Lordstown, OH. I also know the Chevy Vega I had back in the day was built in Lordstown, OH. I always said the Lordstown plant was consistent -- they built crap back in the 70's and they build crap today......

Automatic or stick? A/C on or off?

Regardless, if it didn't get at *least* 35, something's wrong.

38.6 freakn mpg! and the new cars are raving over 30-32 or so. i did it with the windows partially down and the sunroof partially open also. Didn't think anyone would guess this high! LOL car is a 2.2 auto with 122k on it....we keep driving it into the ground but it won't stay down! LOL now i am glad. as for the v65 nice bike ( i had a v45) however, i can still kick your a@@ and still get in the 45 range in mpg! My brother in law was looking real hard for a v65 (82 or 83) and after finding crap and even test riding a few, he ended up going new and got the honda st 1300. to many oiling issues on the magna from what i have read. anyway it is a nice bike (the magna)! great guessing guys!

Well that's low. I cracked over 35 mpg on the last tank in the Saturn and never even touched the highway.

Last highway trip was about 300 miles and I came just short of 42 mpg, and that included some AC use and about a half hour to 45 minutes of DC area traffic snarl. Most of the rest of the trip was at about 70-75 mph. For those that can stay at the limit, some are breaking 45 and better mpg.

I had a 86 Cavalier w/ the 2.0 and it got around 35mpg( x-wife's car actually). Now, if the auto makers advertise that their vehicle gets over 30mpg people are like "Wow"! You would think with those types of #'s in the 80's we would be seeing #'s like that on average in the majority of the cars today. BTW, I just filled up 1/2 hour ago, 25.3 gallons @ 4.09/gal.

Yeah... your a little faster... and I only get 36 mpg tops. The oiling problems were fixed in about '85... mine is a '86. Mine is going up for sale within the next year... new wifie won't ride on it and doesn't want me riding. Vmax's are cool.. I just never liked yamaha quality. with chrome peeling and such. I guess they are a lot better now. Either way, both of our bikes made there own class... MUSCLE BIKES!
