Nice little truck there JBMX
I believe the Pathfinder shares the same platform, but back when I was researching the Pathfinder (about 2 years ago), most were getting 15 mpg average, and the Pathy and Frontier share the same 4 litre V6, so..... there's really no big difference in gas milage from a full sized F150 with the 5.4.
The new EPA ratings give it the same as you rated it at (16mpg average), and the 6 speed stick gets 1 mpg more.

well im one more to believe real-life accounts from a forum like clubfrontier over an EPA ratings website. Many guys on the frontier forum are getting 18 after break in period. Im not worried about it. It will be better than an f150 though i will tell you that. Like i said, i got 16 even though i drove the wheels off of it on some roads yesterday and i had it running, sitting in a parking lot for 30+ minutes to get the battery going. infact some guys with the same truck as i am getting are getting 17 MPG CITY! i dont know how but im happy to hear it!
btw thanks for the compliments.

Well, I was reading Pathfinder forums at the time as well and they were getting 15, some less, some more, but 15 on average. In all honesty, these new EPA ratings seem to be bang on. Everytime you've had a vehicle whether it was the Edge, or Escape, the new EPA's concurred with what your findings were, just as they also have so far with your Frontier. The 4 Litre V6 has never been known as a gas miser engine. I believe the Tacoma holds that torch as far as best mileage in a 6 banger mid sized truck.
How much longer do you have the truck? It'll be interesting to see if you can pull off better milage.

. I truely believe i can get better mileage out of it. Nitrogen in the tires and a cover at least are 2MPG considering they added 2mpg+ to the f150. The payment alone is enough to make me want this truck, considering almost all other 4x4 vehicles dont have a payment this low for what im looking at!
