If you're dead set on mace or pepper spray, look for Fox Labs 5.3 - pain in a can.

Actually you have a couple options with the taser, you can replace the cartridge if you have time and fire again or you can take the cartridge off and use it for a drive stun. both are equally painful and will get ANYONE's attention.
Some of the earlier posters say that pepperspray is not worth it. There is a certain amount of the population that is immune to it especially if they have dark skin or they are accustomed to hot foods. But it's better than nothing.

well the reason for getting some sort of protection is because of 4 mexican guys that followed her home then a few days later were waiting for her there......

i have since told her what to do if being followed, she lives near a police station so i told her to drive there if followed

That amount is approx 2%. I love spicy food and OC kicks my ***. Everybody reacts differently to it but of the 100+ people I've seen get sprayed, only 1 wasn't effected immediately by it and he was hurting later. In my opinion it's a very effective deterrant but anybody can fight through the pain if they are determined. Just make sure you get the 10% concentration and not the ***** 2% stuff they sell in stores.

If someone is charging you, you fire one shot, miss, your attacker isn't gonna stop and wait for you to change cartridges on the Taser. Another post mentioned that there's multiple persons involved; a Taser is a one shot weapon. Granted, OC ain't exactly well suited for fighting off a crowd, but it's better than one shot only with a Taser.

Tasers have their place, but IMO it's not in untrained hands.
