Buying pistol - Looking for suggestions

I'm in the market for a good 40-45 cal semi-auto pistol.

My buddy really likes his Baby Eagle he just bought. I'm gonna shot it this weekend.

I also saw a H&K? or something at Bass Pro a few weeks ago that was nice put a little pricey. ($750 or so)

I don't like the way glocks shoot.

I will be using it mostly for fun/target shooting. But I just got my Conceal and Carry Permit so I want it to be farily small.

But I also have farily large hands and I want it to have a pretty long grip.

Any suggestions?

I know you said you are looking for a .40, but you also said you got your CC. During the summer it is a little harder to "hide" a .40. I carry my Glock 23 .40 during winter when I can wear a jacket, but in the summer I carry my Kel Tec PF9. It's a single stack 9mm 7 +1 that is super easy to conceal. Again like the glock it has no external safety, but I like knowing I can just pull and shoot if I need to. I took some pics a while back with the glock, kel tec P11, and kel tec pf9 comparing sizes. I'll see if I can find and post them.

I just bought me a Springfield Armory XD 45 about 4 months ago and i absolutely love it. I also have the XD 9 so thats why I went with the XD 45 I think I got it for around $400 and it came with carying case, two clips, loader, and holster.

Tons of great suggestions. I have an M&P 40 by S&W and love it.

Any of the Kimber 45s would be a good buy.

Right on man I see what u mean. But this will be my first pistol and I cannot honestly think of any time that I would want to carry. Now at least.

I think for my first pistol I want a good overall gun. Even if it's not the best to conceal.

I will probably keep it in the house and truck mostly. And if I have to actually use it on a person, I want it to be over in one shot.

Aren't the springfields pretty much the same as glocks?

I looked at some of them at BassPro also. Maybe I have them confused with another brand.

I used by buddies Glock to qualify for the license.

The trigger just felt like crap to me. Very hard pull and just felt akward.

could it have have just been his gun?

You have to keep your finger in the middle of the trigger, hence the trigger safety lever is located there! Mine operate smooth as silk!.........

Beretta PX4. Very, very comfortable to hold. Shoots better than the M9.

It all depends on you your body type hight weight and how you dress on what is concealable and what is not. Im heavy set and always wear un tucked dress shirts I carry a p-14 + spare mag pouch concealed with no problems my wife carrys the baby eagle .40 in her small purse very concealably and if im going ultra low key I carry this little guy

Ditto. The PX4 Storm is kinda new on the market. I've owned my .40 for about 6 months. Solid construction. Best gun purchase ever. Highly recommended. - Og

Just for giggles I'll pos the pics eventhough the Kel Tec is probably not your best option...
This is the Glock 23 40 cal next to the Kel Tec PF9 9mm

Kel Tec P11 doulble stack 9mm, Glock 23, and Kel Tec PF9

Glock 23 and Kel Tec PF9

The PF9 is a great gun to shoot. It is surprising how well it groups being as small as it is. I've added a hogue grip sleeve to it and it helps. Kel Tec is American made out of Florida and have EXCELLENT customer service.
