I HAVE A 02 RAV4 4X4 2.2 Auto and get consistant 32 mpg on the highway. I use this toyota for my commute of 126 miles a day. If anyone knows of any bigger or other 4x4 that gets better mileage please let me know.

I live in the sticks and have a 1400' gravel road uphill and the little rav4 has never got stuck, While it's a whinny little 4 banger i have put over 125,000 miles on it in 3 years and the only thing done to it was front wheel bearings and a thermostat under warrenty. Tires last well over 60,000 and brakes lasted 45.000, rotors 120,000 miles. I use the F-150 on weekends and to travel around town and it has been even better to me.

Anyone that buys a Smart Car should be deported.

Any company that runs adds like this should be prevented from doing business in this country.

If you are openly bashing this country, or supporting somone that does, then get the **** out.

Interesting. The OLD school EPA MPG ratings put that vehicle at 25 city and 31 highway on the 2 wheel drive model, which doesn't account for the 1 ~ mpg loss of 4x4, OR the new EPA ratings are that are always lower.

Which leads me to believe you have mastered the art of" hypermiling." Seriously, well done (Not being a jerk, I'm serious...that's insanely impressive).

Not sure if your question was rhetorical or not, but the Ford ESCAPE Hybrid is rated at 34 city and 30 freeway under the NEW EPA ratings. With your driving habits I am certain you would smash the mileage of the Rav4...with more power at that.

The most efficient non-hybrid gasoline powered car is probably the Honda Fit or the Toyota Yaris.

in europe driving in the city with not as many big cars and tight spots im sure the smart car is an excellent choice. but in america where we drive big trucks and drive like idiots driving a smart car is just stupid. and the price isnt cheap either. especially for what you get.

I think po1911 is 'Dead On'.
My sister owned a 1985 Nissan Sentra, my wife and I owned a 1988 Sentra.
We drove the 1985 back and forth to St. Louis, MO. The car averaged 51 MPG. I did the calcs myself, they are accurate. This is all freeway with a manual tranny and no A/C.
In normal driving, the 1985 would get high 30's CITY.
The 1988 model averaged about 5 MPG less. It also had manual tranny and no A/C.
I remain confused; How come the MPG gets LOWER over they years, not higher?
Keep in mind, they were still using Carburetors in 1985, not FI. With all the electronics and the EFI available, we should have gas engines doing better than our current hybrids.
