to the internet savvy

the story

Ok, im having a suspicious moment. im having issues with a company called engineworldusa.com, they will not warranty a motor that blew a head gasket even though i proved i made all preventative measures.

now i been talking on probetalk.com and some guy from california, registered this month when the issues arised has been badmouthing me. this happens to be where the company is located, and his first post is a link to a geocities site that this company has already sent me as proof of what cam grind would be in the motor i bought.

hence the suspicion

the question

how do i find out where that user name is logging in from? i dont know how to find the ip being used and then find out where that ip came from and i know some of you people on here have done that.

make friends with a mod on the board. They can probably see his ip and a simple tracert will show you his general area. The ip for engineworldusa.com is 74.208.136.228

Exactly - only forum mods and admins have access to IP information. If it's vBulletin like this one, they can see the IP of every post and the IP and email address used for registration.

Exactly X2.

While mods and above have access to this information, it's typically kept somewhat confidential.

Which brings me to my next point -- if anyone needs an IP address for another user, I'll forward you my paypal account info. Remember, I said 'somewhat' confidential.

LOL stealth. its not any different than it was, but the 2nd gen probe sure seems like more fun and better looking car than the 1st.

crashlucky, im writing the paperwork up now. the problem is as i stated before in my transmission thread about my ongoing botch trans issue for my truck is the fact wamu cards states it takes 1-2 billing cycles.

RP i'll ask the mod on PT to look into that for me, it'd be nice to know if a vendor is being sneaky sneaky
