Scumbag Cops
Most cops don't become good cops until they have about 15 years of service in and the ego trip has settled down. I quote this from a 35 year state trooper that was a dear friend of mine. RIP Trooper Maxwell.
The only person I would be calling is the coroner to come and pick up the idiot that I just blew away. Yeah that's right, I would "allow" them break in and then I would kill them - I don't care if they were coming just to steal a plate of food... You break into my house and the only way your leaving is in a body bag. I don't need the assistance of cops for anything, I carry 24/7 and I'm perfectly capable of protecting what is mine.
Never underestimate your enemy. But you've done that already.
Just because of what one Trooper states doesn't make it the norm. How many family members of yours are in the "Force"?

Heaven forbid they walk to get to the house. But I would imagine you probably have landmines and tripwires all over the place.
I have deep woods on three sides of me and I highly doubt anyone is going to come from them. If they do they will be confronted by two dogs that will alarm me or take care of business themselves. My property is also completely fenced that is 6' tall. The only way anyone is going to get into my property on foot is either walking past the sensor or dealing with my dogs.
Your biggest downfall to your plan is the fact that you assume that every "criminal" who will try to break in your house in dumber than a brick. You better be a good shot, because what happens if there are 3 of them and they are all packing heat. You won't seem so "tough" now would ya?

Your biggest downfall is underestimating me and my family. No I don't think every criminal who would try to break in to my home would be a complete idiot. I'm also not the only person in my home that knows how to handle a firearm. I use to be a firearms instructor for the NRA so you can count on the fact that my wife and son are very comfortable handling all of my firearms and are very accurate with them. I would already have the advantage as I will most likely know they are there either from my security devices or my dogs. They most likely will not know I know this though. Also I will know the lay of the land and house and they will not - another advantage. Any thirdly, I will have much much more ammo then they could possible dream about having.
Also, I know you would like to discredit everything that I have written here but you need to understand that there are people who are prepared for these type of things and there are those who are not. You may be one of those who are not prepared but I can assure that I am one of those who are.

It is the norm regardless if you want to believe it or not. All to often you see 22 year old kids that graduate the academy and are assigned a badge and a gun and now they think they are super heroes playing god. They still have years of maturing to do but are still given power over our citizens.
I have nothing against cops, I personally know many of them and consider them my friends. It still doesn't change the fact that most of these kids need to mature for many years before they are capable of handling the responsibilities that are given to them without letting it go to their heads.

true, but you have to think about the victim side of it.
Actually you don't have to go there at all, as can be attested by numerous courst cases that police have no legal responisibility to protect individuals. Here is one case similar to your example:
Warren v. District of Columbia
Two women were upstairs in a townhouse when they heard their roommate, a third women, being attacked downstairs by intruders. They phoned the police several times and were assured that officers were on the way. After about 30 minutes, when their roommate's screams had stopped, they assumed that the police had finally arrived. When the two women went downstairs, they saw that, in fact, the police never came, but the intruders were still there. As the Warren court graphically states in the opinion: "For the next fourteen hours the women were held captive, raped, robbed, beaten, forced to commit sexual acts upon each other, and made to submit to the sexual demands of their attackers." The three women sued the District of Columbia for failing to protect them, but D.C.'s highest court exonerated the District and its police, saying that it is a "fundamental principle of American law that a government and its agents are under no general duty to provide public services, such as police protection, to any individual citizen" (Warren v. District of Columbia, 444 A.2d 1 (D.C. Ct. of Ap., 1981).
The details of other cases can be seen here:
Police Have No Duty To Protect Individuals
Do You Have A Right to Police Protection?
This is one of the reasons the 2nd Amendment is so important. Ultimately it is the individuals responsibility to protect themselves and their family.

We stop in at a local 7-11 on midnights frequently because it gets robbed about once a month and the woman who works by herself on mids wants us there. I wonder how many robberies were prevented simply by stopping by to chat with her for a few minutes each night....

It's all in the recruiting. I can speak from experience and state that what your late Trooper friend has stated, IS NOT the norm from where I'm from. Yes, there still are "ego maniac" cops, but not to the extent you've stated. The new recruits training is "supposed" to mature and prepare these young cadets, the message and meaning doesn't get thru to them all.
Obviously if I have woods on three sides of me I don't live in a "neighborhood". I live miles from the city and don't have any neighbors. The 6' fence is a cedar privacy fence and is not only visually appealing but needed for the dogs. The driveway alarm is there to notify us if someone is on their way back to our house.
I have never had to use a firearm in a life or death situation however, I have enough training that if the need were to arise I feel confident in my abilities.
If a vehicle were "barreling" towards me I do not think I would attempt to defend myself against a vehicle with a firearm. My first instinct would be to get out of the way of the vehicle and not stand there shooting at it.
You seem to be really immature.
I live in a great area that has very low crime. I have no worries or fears and I sleep well at night knowing that my family is well protected. People become victims every second across the world and most of the time it is totally unexpected. People become victims on the way to the grocery store, at their local school and even in their own homes. Had these people actually sat back and realized that they are the only ones who are responsible for their own safety then maybe they would have been more prepared and not been the victim of a horrible crime. I prepare myself because I don't want myself or my family to be a victim.
We will continue to disagree on this.
I am just a regular guy living a normal life. I know this world can be very mean at times and I have taken some very simple steps to help protect me and my family. You might not agree with my choices in life but I really couldn't care less
This is the last I will discuss this topic with you.
Have you ever had to use a firearm in a life a death situation? Meaning you have less than a second to make a life altering decision? Just a question, what is the first thing you should try to shoot for if a vehicle is barrelling down towards you? ( not questioning your intellect, just curious to hear your answer )
If a vehicle were "barreling" towards me I do not think I would attempt to defend myself against a vehicle with a firearm. My first instinct would be to get out of the way of the vehicle and not stand there shooting at it.
Sorry, I retract my "sounds like jail" statement earlier. What I meant to say was "artilary bunker". I take it you've seen the movie Tremors before?
Like I have asked you before, is your area you live in that bad that you need to be "prepared"? Seems like alot of worry just for your personal safety don't ya think?
As stated earlier, there is always going to be a few bad apples in the bunch and there is no excuse for it. Ask your cops who are your friends how they felt fresh out of training with a gun and a badge.
