Got My Upgraded Ticket

I took my Amateur Radio test for Element 3 General Class license, and got a 97% on it... missed one question... but I got it!

I'm really happy!

It is HAM radio.

But I also have a GMRS license as well.

Right now my callsign for HAM radio is KC2QQR temporary AG. (Means Assigned General, until it is granted by the Federal Communications Commission.)

My GMRS license is WQGD374. That is for GMRS radios, similar to those of FRS radios, but with more power and bands. Most people just ignore the fact they need a license. But I like to be legit.

I used to mess around with HAM radios. Fun hobby!

Obviously illegal to do but this video is funny and shows what you can but should not do with a HAM:

Manual I am not insulting you, this is a honest question. What is the purpose of a HAM radio?

Thanks!

What bands do you primarily use? I tend to stay on the 2 meter bands.... but I've ventured out and talked to people on the 6m, 1.25m, and 70cm... It's loads of fun!

I really want to buy another transceiver for doing some HF DXing... I'm a Yaesu fanatic, but I'm not quite sure what I want. I'm thinking of getting a Yaesu FT-857D...

I am using a dual band HT ICOM IC-T7H, its an older unit but I love it.

My pops is trying to get me to upgrade to General but I don't have the time.

Scott, around here, its the only defense for storms. I do SkyWarn and you can thank all the Hams around the US that are involved in SkyWarn. We are the ones in the field tracking the storms and giving the real reports to the TV stations. If you have ever heard the choas in the Storm room behind the weather man during storms, that is all the Hams and weather service tracking visually.

Another service Ham's provide is emergency communication, you would be surprised how often its needed.

Is HAM an acronym for something? Like radar or sonar?
