So my Step Mom is Looking for a truck

and she's looking at Toyota Tacoma and Nissan Frontier. I tell her that she could probably get a xlt Tx Edition screw for cheaper than those mid size trucks and have the room of a full truck. I call around get a few quotes from her and call her back and she tells me this:

I don't think we are going to buy from Ford because they contribute to gay foundations.

My step mom is a strong super conservative christian but I was able to find an article from the American Family where the wrote a letter and completed a 24 month boycott on Ford for doing specific marketing and giving incentives to the homosexual groups.

Here's the article:
http://americansfortruth.com/issues/...utomotive/ford

I was just amazed that she would say such and was a little bit wow'd when I researched it and found that stuff out but hey, there are 15 million homosexual American's so that is 15 million cars to sell.

My girlfriends Aunt made her husband sell his F-150 for that same reason. He traded it in on a first generation Tundra. Wanna know something funny? My girlfriends dad looked up a list of companies who contribute to gay foundations and guess what...Toyota is up there along with 1293821039812093 others.

So this question is more about making fun of homosexual's correct?

I personally am straight, an IMO hating homosexual's is the same as hating someone because of the color of there skin, its ignorant and discusting. Its 2008 pal, you need to grow up an open your eyes. No one is better then someone else because of there sexual orientation.

Lets see here, yer first post and you want to slam Ford as being a supporter of the gay folks. You sound like a troll....smells like a .........why don't you go buy a Toyota.

FWIW, the AFA is a supporter of Ford products and has no issues with Ford.

Not buying from a company because they support homosexuals is stupid and ignorant. Extremely ignorant. Tell your mom thanks for contributing to the ever groing number of ignorant jackasses in this country who only think about themselves, and that actually think a homosexual is somehow going to effect her life. Im straight and not really for homosexuality but who the F&$@ CARES!!! Its not related to my life and not effecting it so I live mine just fine.

No the question is not about hating or making fun of anyone. I found something where a strong ultra conservative foundation came to an agreement because they did not agree or find morally right what someone was doing. This group did not sit outside and protest or go to a law maker, instead they boycotted the product. Nothing wrong with that over any issue, not just homosexuality.

I find it stupid when looking to purchase a product to see who they contribute to but according to the article Ford was offering incentives to homosexuals because of their lifestyle choice. Not because Ford was offering an incentive because of brand loyalty etc... I do not agree with that practice at all. That's like Ford offering any black person an additional incentive. It's racist. Of course no one from the gay community cried anything about it, they took advantage of it. It seems that our political correctness leaves some one a victim or treated unfairly every time a group is given or offered something. Well life is not fair, so live with it!

I agree with you on the point of it being ignorant. On the same side I can see where my step-mom comes from seeing as she is an ultra-conservative Christian who views homosexuality as an extreme moral wrong. In her mind she is standing up against something she believes is wrong. When put like that it does not sound so bad but to not purchase a vehicle because of that reason is stupid. All car manufacturers sell and market towards gays because they are part of the consumer market.

If you see I own a Ford myself so I am not a troll. I was trying to talk her away from a foreign mid size truck to a full size for a little bit less than what she was going to pay. And if you read the article I linked in the first post you will see that AFA had a 24 month boycott on Ford products and Ford finally met their conditions. Since you can't seem to click the link I posted and want to jump to conclusions before doing you research on what I posted, here are some of the conditions taken directly from the web site:

The original agreement contained four items:

* Ford would not renew current promotions or create future incentives that give cash donations to homosexual organizations based on the purchase of a vehicle.
* Ford would not make corporate donations to homosexual organizations that, as part of their activities, engage in political or social campaigns to promote civil unions or same-sex “marriage.”
* Ford would stop giving cash and vehicle donations or endorsements to homosexual social activities such as Gay Pride parades.
* Ford would cease all advertising on homosexual Web sites and through homosexual media outlets (magazines, television, radio) in the U.S. with the exception of $100,000 to be used by Volvo. The Volvo ads would be the same ads used in the general media and not aimed at the homosexual community specifically.

^ there was actually a article on autoblog.com about that. In the end, they ended the boycott stating that Ford finally met their demands. When in reality Ford did nothing, and changed nothing.

In reality, Ford has done nothing to appease the AFA. It continues to offer benefits to same-sex couples and the only reason it has reduced or stopped advertising in gay pubs is because mounting losses in the U.S. have shrunk its marketing budget. The same goes for charitable donations to gay-related causes, there's just no money to spare during these hard times at Ford. The AFA even acknowledges that Ford has not really met its conditions, saying, "A few minor issues remain, and we will continue to bring these to the attention of Ford."

Yeah, I kinda agreed that the boycott did nothing. 780,365 people that signed the boycott is nothing compared to the 15 million openly gay Americans. I figured the boycott had minimal impact and the market just made it appear that a group had their conditions met.
