I've observed over the years that enforcement of the window tinting laws in Michigan is very inconsistent. As mentioned above, the issue is the windshield, and front windows. Most of the time it's not a problem, but if a cop is having a bad day, lookout!

NO...

The rear window rule usually applies to trucks.

Most states still make cars have a full [insert state tint minimum] for all windows except the front window which cannot be tinted but form the top down to the ASA line.

USUALLY in most cases, the rear window rules apply to trucks. Most trucks can have any window behind the passenger and drivers window tinted as dark as the user wants.

Alot of rules for trucks are different. In Georgia, if the rider is over 18, they do not need to wear a seat belt in a truck. Things like that...

In Georgia, no doors, hood, teeth, common sense, or windows necessary.

I have factory tint on the 2 back windows and rear window of my Screw. The front passenger and drivers windows weren't tinted. I recently got 15% on the 2 fronts which is technically illegal, but I have been pulled over with the tint on the truck for a different traffic violation (turning on red) and the cop never said anything about it. 15% is an almost identical match to the factory tint on the back and/or side windows depending on your truck.

However, my buddy at work just got popped in Adrian, MI for his tint on his Taco. Cop pulled him over for that reason alone, and ticketed him. It's just a risk you have to take. The Po Po philosophy is that tinited front windows obstruct the cop from being able to see into the vehicle, thus making it unsafe if the driver decides to do something stupid.

This is correct...Michigan- no tint on front unless you have a 4in. stripe on top, back and rear sides can be as dark as you want.

As long as you have side mirrors on both sides of the vehicle, you could paint the rear window black if you wanted to. If you only have a side mirror on the drivers side, then you need to check what the maximum allowed rear window tint is in your state. Note that said maximum doesn't apply to vehicles with mirrors on both sides.
