As of July 1, 1992, refrigerants must be recovered from the appliance before disposal. The environmental and financial penalties for violating this prohibition are high: EPA is authorized to assess fines of up to $25,000 per day per violation of the Act.
I got that from here. I don't see anywhere in the article where crimping is deemed a substitute for removal. I think it's great that you're recycling junk and making money at it but recycling items containing refrigrerants could cut into your profit margin.
