Ford F-100 coming in 2011?

The Ford Ranger's just about ready to kick the bucket, gas prices are higher than the dress neckline of a Texas polygamist cult and CAFE standards — well, let's just say they don't leave much room for error on the high side of the gas guzzle range. Sounds like high time Ford announced a new pickup truck, doesn't it? Perhaps. But only if said pickup truck is the purported return of a badge not seen from Dearborn since 1983 — F-100. That's right, we're hearing rumors this morning of a mini-pickup based on the current F-150. Well, it'll be based on the F-150 in look, feel and most importantly not in size. If it's coming, we're told to expect a Ford F-100 at 9/10ths the size of the 2009 Ford F-150 to hit dealer lots in the 2011 model year.
Our friends at PickupTrucks.com are also telling us this morning rumors aren't as far-fetched as one would think. Ford desperately is looking for ways to hold on to their share of the ever-shrinking pickup truck market and if they need to offer a stripped down F-150 on Weight Watchers, they'll do it. Heck, they've even got a pretty sketch of what a new boldly-moving-smaller pickup based on the current F-150 might look like. Expect the real version to look nothing like it. But have a look anyway.

Man, I don't like the looks of unibody trucks. I hope the aesthetics of this thing are worthwhile to look at. I heard a rumor that a Bronoco III will be reintroduced when '11 rolls around?
I'd be on that as quick as ants are to sugar in my driveway.
I still like the Heritage F150... something about that style just looks cool.
Personally... I don't like the tall boxes on these trucks...

Same here, feel like I need a ladder or knee pads when I need to get into the bed.

How much bigger is the 2009 F-150 compared to the 2004 F-150? Is it 11/10 the size? Or is it 10.5/10?
Assuming the 2009 F-150 is 11/10 the size of the current gen, then the F-100 will basically equal the size of the current gen F-150.
Current F-150 = 100
2009 F-150 = 100 * 1.1 = 110
F-100 = 110 * .9 = 99
Now, assuming the 2009 F-150 is only 10.5/10 the size of the current gen...
Current F-150 = 100
2009 F-150 = 100 * 1.05 = 105
F-100 = 110 * .9 = 94.5
I'm too lazy to look up the numbers on the 2009 F-150, but I have my head buried in a spreadsheet at work and needed something else to do for 5 minutes
A re-designed Ranger or new F-100 is needed -- but it should be a true compact pick-up! With gas closing in on $4.00 per gallon, it would be ridiculous to come out with a "compact" truck that's about the same size as a full-size truck from just a few years back......
Give us a well-designed small truck that delivers somewhere in the mid-to-upper-20's (in the real world -- not just in your tests for the CAFE standards.....
) for highway gas mileage and the things will sell like hotcakes.....

I pray for a new bronco. Saw a concept years ago, came with a diesel. Looked nice, minus the space age crap that would never make it into production anyway. Looked a tiny bit bigger than a Jeep.
Is that why sales are up 20% YTD and are at their best selling point since 2004???
