I'll have to ask around about that. I was thinking about getting an inversion table when this was all done and over with. I figure it'll help loosen me up from every day activities.

Which disc are herniated? If it is the original ones you broke, L1, L2, and L3, you would be better off having them fused. If they are higher up a repair may be more advisable. You can herniate a disc with very little effort if your back is already compromised. Something as little as sneezing can do it. If you did not fully rehab your back from the last accident it leaves you open for more damage in the future. I know rehab sucks and is boring and painful making it hard to complete. But the risk of another injury, especially with backs, is extremely high
Sorry to hear that you are having so much trouble

I already had a fusion of L1, L2, and L3 fused. The herniated discs are L3-L4 and L4-L5, I'm not sure which other. I did 6 months of PT after my accident. So I've done everything that I can really.

Man...

My dad had two herniated disks in his lower back from lifting a bale of hay out of a truck. The doctors kept offering surgery but he wouldn't do it. He eventually got used to the pain. That man had more will-power than anybody I've ever known.

My prayers are with you my friend.

Not knowing anymore about your situation, I would say they will fuse the rest of you lumbar vert. It will make the rest of you back more structurally sound and will only limit your mobility some as opposed to having to do anything with your mid to upper back. Keep us informed. God bless

Thanks for the input. I'm going to the Dr tomorrow so we'll see what he has to say ... Last night I was in more pain than ever. I've been on pain medication for 3 years and I'm a relatively low dose still so I wasn't a happy camper.

Get the inversion table and start off slowly. I got it and use it when my neck and back start acting up. Try the inversion table before surgury if the hardware is not loose. It is worth every dollar you pay for it, and makes for alot of fun when you get a girl in a skirt wanting to try it...

sorry to hear that Thump, I have a close friend who broke 2 or 3 Lumbars (or whatever they called) ruptured his spleen, broke his leg and arm, and almost bit off his own tongue when he was hit by an IED in Iraq. He was in pretty bad shape himself. So I have a kind of vague idea of what your going through man, all I can say is keep your head up, and with the right mind set everything will turn out as it should

not trying to steal no thunder either, but I'm only 20 and my backs starting to give out on me 2 from spending 15 months at the two way target range

Ive got 3 bulging and 1 herniated disc in back from a wreck 2 years ago so feel ya man What are the plans??? are they gonna fuse them or what? PT can only strengthen the muscle around the herniations to strengthen your core which helps with everyday life not pain, and sorry to say this but you cant reverse a herniation they'll prob fuse the L3-L4 or whatever order they are in, hopefully they can fuse in two's and not one big chunk!!! prayers are with you man

Sounds like shortly my back is going to be one giant non-pliable block. My L1, L2, and L3 are already fused together. Since the herniation is in part of the old spot and some of the new I'm guessing it's all going to be fused together. I'm just wondering if the herniation was caused by the stress put on the next vertebraes because of the first fusion. So if I got it done again, wouldn't it just happen again? Just keep moving up my back until everything was fused?
