So I've got some bad news ...
A lot of you guys know that I broke my back severely and I've been dealing with it for the past three years of my life. I've been on heavy doses of pain medication at times. It's horrible and it's only getting worse as of recently. Finally enough was enough and about a month ago I saw a specialist nearly 4 hours away. I was told that it's probably that the hardware needs to be removed out of my back. The Dr. wanted me to get a MRI done when I got back. So I did and sent him the results as well as the original surgeon. The specialist I saw is too old, can't stand that long, and would rather me go to the original surgeon who installed the hardware. I've got an appointment with him tomorrow. However the specalist that I saw found that I've also got three hinerated(Sp?) disks. I don't have any idea how it could of happened. I don't do anything crazy now a days because my back hurts so damn much. I take it easy on myself. Anyone know anything about them? Any advice? :(

Sorry to hear that, back pain is a bitch. Good luck with everything, prayers sent

I feel for you thump. Back in 1985 I had a compression fracture of T7-T8 and T9. Starting to be able to feel it now. Luckily I haven't had any disc issues.
Let me guess Motorcycle? Mine was on one of the first Ninja models out. I still have an XR650 though:) Hang in there. |
I'm sorry to hear that, we will keep you in our prayers. My dad went through the same thing with herniated(sp?) disks. Unfortunately, he tried two unsucessful expiremental surgeries and ended up having to have a fusion. And to this day he still hurts but not quite as bad as before the fusion. And I am guessing that you probably already have a fusion with your back having been broken, so thats about as far as my limited knowledge will take me on this subject.

back pain must be horrible. My back hurts only when I go fishing. I guess supporting my gut all day takes a toll on my back. Hope everything works out for you.

Racing motocross one night. I passed out from heat exhaustion before a 80-90 ft jump, hit it 4th gear pinned sitting down according to everyone. I ended up waking up in the air and just landing on my feet on the face of the next jump which was about 110-120 ft. I broke my L1, L2, and L3, punctured my right lung from a broken rib, and broke every single bone in my right foot including my talus bone.
I was paralyzed after arriving at the hospital. When it happened I didn't know I broke my back. It just hurt a little bit and I figured it was normal. I just told everyone to get my boot off before the swelling set in and they had to cut it off. I was airlifted to the first hospital where they fixed my back. However they had no idea to fix my foot, they had never seen a break as bad as it. Thankfully my parents researched and found a Dr. who does athletic orthopedic trauma, he does a lot of NBA and NFL players. A bunch of screws and pins and it was fixed. I was on bed rest for about 5-6 months before I could start walking. While I was on bed rest I got some bad kidney stones. I was in a wheel chair at the time too. I ended up going to the hospital, they were taking forever, I ended up throwing up on the nurse, after that they took me right in. |
Hang in there man. :bandito:

damn man you've been through a lot. Motorcross is VERY dangerous. I have seen many people break their feet and legs.

I know how that goes sometimes I question the order they take people in to the er. I ripped my hand open down to bone all the way across and on top of being 45 min away from the nearest hospital, I had to watch 6 others enter before I did and they showed up after me. Then I finally just held my hand over the receptionists desk bleeding and refused to move till they took me in. |
Good luck with it all thump. At least you are still alive, i had 4 close friends die riding motocross in the last year, one of them was right in front of me. Needless to say i dont ride much anymore. :bandito:

good luck thump. someday ill find out whats wrong with my back. not to steal your thunder but basically i have a common aching back, along with the quick movement sharp pain shooting up my back causing real bad feelings. Back problems suck. Good luck.

That would totally suck to be dealing with back pain at your age. When you're young you're supposed to be able roll around in the dirt and then get up like there's nothing to it! I hate when I tweak my back, let alone having to deal with it on an ongoing basis. Good luck with whatever has to be done......

Damn. Sorry, man. Will be praying for you.

Thanks for all of the kind words, hopefully tomorrow is good news. I just want to get it done with and be pain free.
I forgot to add. I had to have a bone graph from my hip to build up my back since so much was compromised during the fracture. Also I was diagnosed with degenerative disk disease when I get the MRI done ... |
Who did you get mad at you in a former life? As far as the disk: I have one ruptured {was herniated,} but ended up going all the way. Don't know if you can do it with all of your other problems, but you might try spinal decompression. Basically, it is a machine that pulls your back apart for 45minutes to an hour at a time. Not hard, but enough to release some of the pressure on the disc, which in turn relieves some pressure on the nerve running thru the disc.
Be careful: some people will put you in traction for a few minutes and call it done. The spinal decomp will have you there for about hour each time. Good Luck Woof Bowser |
